how can a CFB coaching staff have NIL philosophy?

it is being said that Penn State will not overpay a player in the transfer portal to attend PSU? Since no school has control of the entities that set up NIL deals, how can a coach have a philosophy? a third party organization may see a player has substantial NIL value as say a participant in local commercials for a car dealer, but does not add that much to PSU roster - but they do have an offer. on the other hand their may be a player who has very little NIL value, but would mean a lot to PSU roster. In either case, JF may not want to disturb his roster with a high paid player.

how does the coach have any say, since it is not PSU money, or PSU org cutting the NIL contract?

They need to get rid of the faux separation of NIL collectives and the coaching staff. At the better NIL schools (Miami, Tennessee, A&M) they work together (despite whatever bogus rules exist). We should do that too (and we probably do, which is why we have a ‘NIL’ philosophy).

Don't disagree, but it makes one wonder how much is real and how much is BS. We know about the individual deals that players have reached. The collectives and how much money they've raised and how much they've doled out, not so much.

Do you think these NIL organizations are prioritizing recruits/portal players on their own, independently making decisions on who the coaches would want?

COME ON MAN!

coaching staffs are providing guidance on all aspects, priorities, who to give best deals, etc. Off the record of course.

Absolutely correct, just like the bagmen of old. Rarely if ever are NIL’s passing money to players without the coaches (including ours) tacit approval and/or direction. It’s just legal these days.
