My daughter lives in Jersey City and is very happy there. The state as a whole has a lot to offer. In fact, a 2021 survey ranked it the best state to live in.

Obviously can't say for certain, but there is a good chance I know who it is. If it is who I think it is, lovely girl, wonderful family. She had her reasons for going to OSU (weren't academic; she could have gone to a better school). Don't necessarily agree with them, but do understand them.

Glad to hear. But how can you afford it? For example.....I live in a very nice suburb of Atlanta. Market value of my home is roughly $500k....my property tax is roughly $2,500. How does that compare to your situation?

The cost of living here is awful, no doubt. It eats at me a lot. We have a lot of family here and I guess in my mind that is worth it to separate me from my money(but barely). I live in a $700K house with 2 acres of private property......my property taxes are nearly $20,000 a year.

I’m at my Jersey shore house as we speak. I live in Pa but love it here especially in the off season when all the shoobies are gone. Nice to be retired, watching the sunsets, eating fried oysters, walking on the beach, and having a cocktail on my deck (weather permitting of course). And I still get the B10 channel! Taxes down the shore are cheap because there aren’t any kids to put into the school system. Of course the home prices have skyrocketed but that’s happening everywhere. But for $1.5 million you can still be beach front. Mine unfortunately faces west over the bay.

I am one of those people. We lived in South Jersey (Voorhees) for 16 years. We moved to PA (Bucks County) to get a bit closer to family in NEPA.

We would never go back due to the taxes. In the same house in NJ, our property taxes would be approx. $20k.

Not that they hate NJ or anything, in fact most are proud Jerseyians. They just have no interest in Rutgers or any of the state schools.

Pa is much more tax friendly for retirees since distributions from retirement plans are not subject to state income taxes. Many people I know retire and move across the state line from NJ into PA for their official residence. They can still go over the bridge to buy gas and booze on the way down the shore to their summer home. And remember, the state bird of NJ is the mosquito.
