it seems like in the world of social media and every phone is a camera, nothing can be kept secret. this year Ryan Day had his star WR hurt and did not comment much other than say it was a longer term situation. however, my brother who works in CBus showed me videos and pictures of the player on crutches with knee brace going into an ortho clinic. there were also pictures of him rehabbing in a swimming pool at tOSU. so no matter how little the coach wanted to say, the secret was out because the public gets the information. there were some other pictures of a player going in for an early morning surgery. maybe coaches are worried about this being an HIPAA issue, but with famous people the public finds out.
With gambling in the NFL, I think that is why they forced injury information to be public. since we have betting on CFB, i am surprised that the bookmakers don't hire PI's to investigate injuries on each team, if information is not coming out.
