Smalls has been doing golf centered S&C since high school. They will get on the treadmill, at a pretty good incline, with their full bag on their back. Lots of flexibility work too, with all the bending and turning they do.Never even thought about golf and lifting weights.
Never even thought about golf and lifting weights.
I heard John Daly always worked on his 6-pack, of beer. Not a ton of traditional weightlifting for most golfers, I don't think.
From the limited amount I have seen, researched (I play alot and also work out, so i didn't want the 2 to interfere much, so to speak) - some of the younger & more athletic pros will do some of the traditional movements like squats, with some more explosive movements like snatches, cleans (if they are flexible enough & properly coached) - but not much.
a lot of it is rotational power training with med balls, weighted clubs/sticks, flexibility, and some HIIT-type things. 4 rounds in 4 days isn't that easy, and the thought is that the guy that can still rip it on sunday afternoon has a better chance than the guy who's worn out.
Bama's new facility is amazing.
Actually it's not. And it's not for "kids".Its a bit overkill for kids GOLF but whatever
Golfers are true athletes now. If they aren't, their professional shelf life will be short. No Porky Olivers on the tour today. Tim Herring wouldn't break in today, either. Even many if not most of the seniors are working hard at golf-specific weight and flexibility training now. It gives rise to speed and speed equals distance.Never even thought about golf and lifting weights.
Bama's new facility is amazing.
He could have been unimaginably better than he was.I heard John Daly always worked on his 6-pack, of beer.
I've always thought if he could have handled his personal life better, he could have been one of the most popular golfers of all time.He could have been unimaginably better than he was.
I was thinking of proficiency more than popularity. Lots of people like the guy, but most of them recognize that he primarily squandered his prodigious talent.I've always thought if he could have handled his personal life better, he could have been one of the most popular golfers of all time.
It's a game for a lifetime and there's nothing wrong with that.Golf is for old white dudes. YMMV.
Players today, especially since the advent of Tiger Woods, are more athletic than they ever have been - and not backing off any. These people are in the gym almost every day - both men and women. But the great players, while skilled, are far from athletic. That's just a reach....
So would a lot of other athletes.Tiger W, while gifted in a craft that demands skill, would fall short in the decathlon events.
Actually it's not. And it's not for "kids".
Golf is for old white dudes. What a take. While I am an old white dude, I see plenty of black, asian and white men, women and children on the course. What a troll. Lot of good golfers out there that are in fact, athletes. Best golfers I have ever played with were pro hockey and baseball players at one point. And no, they probably were never track athletes if that's the meter. And long distace guys are athletes? So the 135 lb kid that has tons of stamina is an athlete? No eye hand coordination, just run. Stop.
It’s for college golfers, who btw are adults and many are paying for their own college expenses, who clearly could drive and putt circles around grumpy old men like you. These golfers put in unbelievable hours to get better every day and chase their dreams. For example, getting back to campus at 3 am after a long flight from a tournament across the country, and then turning around to be back in the gym at 5am that same morning for their workouts. My son puts in crazy hours in the PGA Management program at Coastal. But it will be worth it and I enjoy watching him achieve his dreams every day.Who is it for?
Actually im old and white snd dont play golf but.... it is interesting how some folks see skin color in everything. Sad
I agree about proficiency as well, but Daly appealed to the "everyman" in a way that few golfers do.I was thinking of proficiency more than popularity. Lots of people like the guy, but most of them recognize that he primarily squandered his prodigious talent.
When I play I see men and women of all ages and races. Definitely not just old white dudes.Golf is for old white dudes. YMMV.
If being good at the decathlon is the requirement to be considered an "athlete," then there aren't many athletes who are actually athletes.Tiger W, while gifted in a craft that demands skill, would fall short in the decathlon events.
Not many offensive linemen would qualify as athletes by that standard. If being good at the decathlon is the requirement to be considered an "athlete," then there aren't many athletes who are actually athletes.
Not denying his populist appeal, only pointing out his glaring achievement deficit.I agree about proficiency as well, but Daly appealed to the "everyman" in a way that few golfers do.
He had a good year. Not denying his populist appeal, only pointing out his glaring achievement deficit.
He won two majors. So did Andy North. Yeah, I know.He had a good year.
Lol @ grumpy old men. Im old but far from grumpy but thanks for the insult..It’s for college golfers, who btw are adults and many are paying for their own college expenses, who clearly could drive and putt circles around grumpy old men like you. College Golf is growing fast, and it’s absolutely embarrassing that we are not embracing the trend, especially being in the SEC and the strong golf in this conference.
