Smalls has been doing golf centered S&C since high school. They will get on the treadmill, at a pretty good incline, with their full bag on their back. Lots of flexibility work too, with all the bending and turning they do.Never even thought about golf and lifting weights.

I heard John Daly always worked on his 6-pack, of beer. Not a ton of traditional weightlifting for most golfers, I don't think.
From the limited amount I have seen, researched (I play alot and also work out, so i didn't want the 2 to interfere much, so to speak) - some of the younger & more athletic pros will do some of the traditional movements like squats, with some more explosive movements like snatches, cleans (if they are flexible enough & properly coached) - but not much.
a lot of it is rotational power training with med balls, weighted clubs/sticks, flexibility, and some HIIT-type things. 4 rounds in 4 days isn't that easy, and the thought is that the guy that can still rip it on sunday afternoon has a better chance than the guy who's worn out.
Bama's new facility is amazing.
Actually it's not. And it's not for "kids".Its a bit overkill for kids GOLF but whatever
Golfers are true athletes now. If they aren't, their professional shelf life will be short. No Porky Olivers on the tour today. Tim Herring wouldn't break in today, either. Even many if not most of the seniors are working hard at golf-specific weight and flexibility training now. It gives rise to speed and speed equals distance.Never even thought about golf and lifting weights.

He could have been unimaginably better than he was.I heard John Daly always worked on his 6-pack, of beer.
I've always thought if he could have handled his personal life better, he could have been one of the most popular golfers of all time.He could have been unimaginably better than he was.
I was thinking of proficiency more than popularity. Lots of people like the guy, but most of them recognize that he primarily squandered his prodigious talent.I've always thought if he could have handled his personal life better, he could have been one of the most popular golfers of all time.
It's a game for a lifetime and there's nothing wrong with that.Golf is for old white dudes. YMMV.
Players today, especially since the advent of Tiger Woods, are more athletic than they ever have been - and not backing off any. These people are in the gym almost every day - both men and women. But the great players, while skilled, are far from athletic. That's just a reach....
So would a lot of other athletes.Tiger W, while gifted in a craft that demands skill, would fall short in the decathlon events.
