I don't give a hootie poo about women's basketball, but this is pretty darn impressive by Dawn

More impressive than the 2 national titles, in my opinion.

The girl who committed yesterday wasn't going to come here because we didn't offer her desired major. Dawn worked with the honors college to create the program necessary for what she wanted to study.

That's the most impressive thing I've ever heard done by any head coach in any sport. Maybe it's done more often than I know of. I doubt many 5* football players are that picky though. And other students will benefit as well.

Not the only thing Dawn had to compete with. The package she and her family were getting from LSU is insane. Dawn Staley is reason enough for me to disregard anyone who tells me we’re in the NIL cellar. They’re either lying, not not telling the whole story.

WBB against Maryland I thought was more fun to watch than the MBB games. Probably because I knew the women would win.

You should give a hootie poo, because it’s the only sport worth a poo.
haha, probably. I just don't find even mildly interesting.

This is a cool story though and a feather in Dawn's cap. This is something that will resonate with parents far more than any NIL deal.

It is Environmental Engineering.

Dawn signed three recruits this cycle. All 5 ⭐'s. In that tiny body lies a beast!

I see the issue with some posters and the WBB program as two-fold. For some, their sports prism only revolves around men and what men can do athletically. They constantly compare the women's product to the men's product when they shouldn't be compared. Anyone with a drop of sense knows that the women can't compete with men athletically. With that said, that fact should not stop you from appreciating the skill that a woman can develop in a particular sport. If you can't appreciate the speed a Milaysia Fulwiley has with the ball in her hands, you don't know basketball and what it takes to be a good player. Same with Kitts hustle and effort around the basket against Maryland last Sunday. If you know the sport, you know that those are qualities that gets you wins in the Men's or Women's game. The second issue is the coach that is winning all of these games. Some of our fans having a personal issue with Dawn and they can't stand that is her that is winning all these games and getting all of this attention. So, they poo-poo like they don't care until we lose a game and then they seem to care a whole lot.

It's a funny dynamic to watch but it would be great when some of these detractors get on board and just appreciate the run that this program is on. This is not happening at every school you know. There are plenty of schools that have no sport to be proud whether it be on the men or women's side.

You make a good point.
Should women be paid the same as men?

That's your issue not mine. However, if the revenue calls for it, they should. For example, Serena Williams is never going to be Novak Djokovic in a tennis match. However, women's tennis attracts just as much attention and revenue as men's tennis. So, in that instance, they should. It's sort of the "Eat what you Kill" principle that I have. As for the WNBA, I say no. It just doesn't attract the revenue for that.

Any reasonable basketball fan can appreciate the women's talent and ability. Aja Wilson was and is an incredible basketball player. So is Clark at Iowa, or any number of the big name women's players. Just because you appreciate the talent and ability doesn't mean you have to enjoy the product on the floor. I love basketball, but I just can't enjoy the average WBB game. I will probably flip on the beatdown of CU tonight, and I'll watch them if they play for a championship. Outside of that, though, WBB doesn't move the needle for me.

To your point on the coach...I don't want to derail the thread and turn it political, but Coach Staley has made several stances/comments that many fans won't and don't agree with. It's understandable why a fan may not appreciate her political stances or comments. Actively wanting her to fail at your school because of a political disagreement is weird though.

I went to plenty of WBB games when I was in college, but it's just not a sport I have any interest in. I'm glad we have a great program, and it's cool to be nationally relevant in something. I just wish it were in a sport I cared about...football, MBB, or baseball.

I don't pay them so I don't care. Serena I would think gets paid more for endorsements than anything else. I don't see dj on commercial. Could be the different country thing. Also can you explain that to the women soccer players. Lol

I wasn’t comparing the men’s to women’s game; I was saying that for those two particular games, the women’s game was more fun to watch. As Shoe says, for fun and entertainment.

....and I wasn't putting you in the two-fold category of detractors. I saw from your post that you could appreciate the women's game for what it is. I just used your post because you were someone that could be on the other side of that spectrum.

Why would I? The US Women's Teams brings in just about as much revenue as the Men's Team when you take into account the last two World Cup Cycles. The men missed the entire tournament one time, so they made no prize money. The earned 6.5 for making the second tournament. The women made the World Cup both times and brought in 6 million for both tourneys. Seems sort of equal to me. A better argument would be the WNBA who works at an operating loss and is subsidized by the NBA.

I stayed over on Gamecock Scoop for a while and compared the two before coming over.

I could give a crap about women’s basketball (college and professional) too but what Dawn Staley continues to do is amazingly impressive. That being said, our girls must win the championship this year to solidify Dawn’s Hall of Fame legacy. Two titles is great but three titles make you an iconic goddess!!!

It was interesting to hear that Joyce wasn't coming to Carolina because we didn't have her major. Coach Staley reached out to our academic dept. (Honors College) and figured out a way to offer the type of engineering that she was interested in. Pretty impressive.
