He seems to really care about the kids and the program. He is soooo much better than Muschamp was. However, it seems he’s in way over his head. Only time and continued experience will help him. If it were up to you, would you give him whatever time it takes or move on quickly to someone with head coaching experience.

At $6 million+ a year he shouldn't be doing on the job training. If I were Tanner I'd be renegotiating his contract to a lower salary with big bonuses for hitting goals. If he didn't want to do that I'd wish him well and hire a real head coach.

Obviously Tanner isn't going to do that, he isn't anywhere near smart enough to. Tanner gave Beamer a huge raise for no good reason at all.

Maybe we can get a real coach like Jimbo Fisher?

Every college coach in America...shoot EVERY coach in America...is doing on the job training.

What is wrong with you people? If Tanner cut the salary of the head coach, you call him cheap, and if he locks him down by giving him a raise, you call him stupid for doing so. The men cannot win for loosing, at least on this forum. JMO. Go Cocks

Yeah....these are the sentiments of many of us. I want him to succeed, but IF you're going to gamble this big on a guy who had never been in charge of one side of the ball before, it had better be a highly incentive-laden contract until some conf. championships roll in.

I am no ACC apologist....I'm probably the hardest on what I call the women's league....but even including that and any level (through in HS if you want to)....when you win 73% of your football games= you know what you're doing. That 73% INCLUDES his time within the SEC too....in the state of TX.....and not coaching in Austin.
You know who the OC and recruiter for the 03 National Champ. LSU team was? Yep...him. He also recruited the same guys that won the 07 NC at LSU under MIles. Was the QB coach during Tommy Bowden years when they went undefeated. I guess he's just real lucky to keep hanging around all these winners.

How can this even be a serious discussion/debate? One is doing his internship for millions of dollars....and the other guy has proven himself at numerous places already.
Yes, he proved that he can't win at a place that gave him 5 star players and $100m. In addition, he made a fool of himself on and off the field. No thanks.

Everyone loves Shane but he's got to grow up and kick underperforming coaches in the *** and bench players that don't hustle or underachieve. First step -- send a signal and fire the offensive line coach. I don't care about injuries. We should have had a two tight end set from day one and should have stuck with it. Our blocking schemes were not taught properly and it showed. How can we enable such horrible performance when these guys are paid $400,000? Shane needs to quit being everybody's friend and start being a hard ***. He's a competitive guy and it should steam his clams that he has to go to press conferences and pump sunshine after so many games. No one is buying it.

Muschamps players loved him as well. Hired kids liking you don’t make you a good coach. You judged by wins and loses. Now that academics are out the window it’s all that matters.

I was so hoping to find another "I like Beamer, but..." thread, it's been days since a new one popped up.

I would move on quickly to someone with head coaching experience.

criteria: at least three years HC at major college level.
prove you can win in an Uber competitive conference like SEC
already established ability to win with victories over top programs.

I’d hire Shane Beamer

He was with Terry Bowden, not Tommy Bowden. Otherwise, your information is correct.

I’m becoming more and more unsure about Beamer. We cant have another season like 2023. And it seems like we are losing alot to the portal and not really gaining anything from what I can tell. Signs of a failing system? We shall see.

I think that Tanner is in way over his head. He was a good baseball coach obviously- but a/d is not for him. After the Muschamp debacle he shouldn’t have been allowed anywhere near another H/C hire. I think that the BOT should have terminated his employment the same time they did Muschamp’s.

TBH there is not a single coach in all of D1 that has much experience navigating this new college football landscape.

You are fooling yourselves if you think Beamer will not get as much time as Muschamp was given. I'm just hoping that Beamer will send the weak links on the staff their walking papers and replace them with quality hires.
