won the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year Award........nice stats. Any chance he doesn't go pro ?

• Terry's Rashun Dixon, an MSU football signee, was named Mississippi's 2008 Baseball Gatorade Player of the Year. As a senior, the little brother of Anthony Dixon hit .530 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in leading his team to the Class 5A semifinals

Has anyone seen him play more than a game or a game with against a quality pitcher ? I am wondering if he can hit a curveball or off speed stuff ? ..... I know he is a 5 tooler , just wondering about that certain thing ... because it is easier to learn to hit a curveball in the minors than SEC

I was curious about that as well. Didn't he transfer to Hillcrest this year though so that he could face better competition?

If not, it would remind me a little bit of Rontae Langs. He chose to go to Junior College for baseball instead of coming to Ole Miss to play football. His reasoning was so that he could up his draft status and leave whenever he wanted without having to stay the full 3 years required by D-1 baseball. As it turns out, he was a great athlete but couldn't hit real pitching. He could tear it up off city school pitchers in Memphis that basically just throw BP, but when he had to face guys that could do more than throw one pitch that comes in at 75 mph, he couldn't hit anything.

I wonder where he is today. He was a pretty good RB and had a chance at football, but he thought his future was in baseball. He was wrong. That may not be the case with Dixon, especially if he did change divisions to get better competition, but it reminded me of that.

No...He did not change schools. He played at Terry which is 5A. They were 4A last year and moved up this year. They made it to the 4A finals last year and i think to the 5A semi finals this year. He would not have played better competition in the private schools.

And Yes, the kid is a legit 5 tool player. Which means he can hit the breaking stuff. If he couldn't he would be a 4 tool player.

FYI, for those of you who don't know a 5 tool player is someone who has all of the following skills: Run, Throw, Hit for Power, Hit for Average, and Play Defense. He does all of these at a high level on the grading scale that the MLB scouts use.

He can hit everything except for sidearms. He didn't do much against Warren last year from Petal and didn't have a good game at all with Vanderheiden from Oak Grove this year, but he hit absolutley everything else. Those numbers weren't really that inflated by Jim Hill, Wingfield or Natchez either. He mostly walked or hit doubles against them. Most of his home runs came against quality pitching.

He wants to be taken in the 2nd round. That's his cutoff unless someone comes up in a later round offering 1st or 2nd round money. Anything could happen and he could wind up at State, but I think he'll be in Florida this summer.

Ole Miss and Vanderbilt will have a tough road next year. Looks good for MSU and Rashun Dixon. I didn't see Weatherford on there anywhere?

If so, the first thing the new Head Coach needs to do is go to Anthony and get his little brother's phone number on speed dial. Then, promise him that he'll be the centerpiece of his new baseball program for the next three years. This guy is a MASHER with a rifle arm.

Let's just hope this didn't already sign with an agent.
