I was pondering the pursuit of the rushing record with Barkley. I can't imagine if he were on any team in preceding decades there is even a debate of sitting and not going for the record.
It wasn’t exactly Barkley’s decision.I haven’t seen details of the decision and don’t anyone here knows the inside conversation that took place. Knowing how humble Saquon is, couldn’t have said, I’ll take the rest over the record?
I get what you’re saying and agree with you. We hear a lot about the extra games today vs the 80’s and 90’s (heard it with Jeanty). To date, Barkley has 34 fewer carries than Dickerson had in ‘84. Give Saquon that extra 34 carries throughout the season and he likely breaks the record. The fact is he would be breaking in one more game so it's a paper trophy
That is fine, but the fact is this notion that players back in the day would take personal glory over the team seems odd to me. I get why they are resting him and it's not very hard to figure out....it's really not.I get what you’re saying and agree with you. A paper trophy????? In your mind I suppose. So you're saying players used to be personal glory first above the team? The fact is he would be breaking in one more game so it's a paper trophy and had he gotten injured while going for it the Eagles could kiss any chance of the Superbowl good bye. Never mind the fallout for letting him play. The fact they get to rest him isn't some sort of negative for anyone. I get fans wanting him to do it, but fans are generally irrational.
I wished he would have broken it, but I get why they are choosing team over his record. I get the decision as it's what is best for the team. I'm not an Eagles fan and this is a no brainer, buy here somehow people want to think it's a tough decision.A paper trophy????? In your mind I suppose.
I’d say carries matter more than games. Right now, 26 has 34 less carries than the record holder. I’d be willing to bet he would get 102 yards and it wouldn’t require 34 touches if he played Sunday.
Barkley was on pace to exceed his single game rushing total the first time they played the Giants in October. He was 13 yards away with a quarter left in the game and decided to let the young dogs eat instead of going for that personal best. Had he played that whole game I’m sure he would have added to his total yards for that game/the season.

Did you ever hear of a team with no name on jerseys. Etc.I was pondering the pursuit of the rushing record with Barkley. I can't imagine if he were on any team in preceding decades there is even a debate of sitting and not going for the record.
And he has more carries than 3 others. Plus more games than Simpson. So….A paper trophy????? In your mind I suppose.

Thank the Steelers. At least we won something.I wished he would have broken it, but I get why they are choosing team over his record. I get the decision as it's what is best for the team. I'm not an Eagles fan and this is a no brainer, buy here somehow people want to think it's a tough decision.
Barkley should wear a disguise and a different jersey to get his carries.

One more game? Then isn’t the record OJ’s? And while we’re at it, im too lazy to look it up, but Jim Brown might have it because i think he only played 12 game seasonsSo you're saying players used to be personal glory first above the team? Jim Brown then every other running back who ever lived. One more game? Then isn’t the record OJ’s? And while we’re at it, im too lazy to look it up, but Jim Brown might have it because i think he only played 12 game seasons
Can you give an example of when sitting a top player in a meaningless game was not done in decades past so that the player could achieve a milestone/record? I'm sure that it has happened but I can't think of a specific occurrence.I was pondering the pursuit of the rushing record with Barkley. Saquon was spotted in a Burger King bathroom on New Year's Eve.

Barkley said whatever the coaching staff wanted him to do, he was good with it.I haven’t seen details of the decision and don’t anyone here knows the inside conversation that took place. Knowing how humble Saquon is, couldn’t have said, I’ll take the rest over the record?
Does he? Those would probably be when he's tired, and in non-optimal situations. There's a benefit to only running when the situation most appropriately calls for it, and on fresher legs.I get what you’re saying and agree with you. You read my mind. I always think of Bobby Valentine when I see that glasses/nose/mustache mask.
I am glad Barkley was willing to put the team first and not make a deal about it. However, if the Eagles don't win it all it will look like a huge missed opportunity not only for Barkley but the whole team. I understand the money aspect, the incentives, etc; it's a business. But this record has stood for decades. It wouldn't only mean a ton to Barkley, but his whole offensive line and the whole team really as the whole team contributes to a record like this. I personally hate it when teams rest players because I always was personally driven to do my best playing through injuries etc. I know resting your starters makes sense on the surface and many probably do need the rest. I just wanted to see him break this record so much. I just kinda wish the whole OL just said go pound sand, we're playing and getting that record.I was pondering the pursuit of the rushing record with Barkley.
