Would it not make sense to offer: Clemson, UVA, UNC & Duke?

We add Clemson which further strengthens the reputation of the SEC as the premier football conference.

We add UNC, Duke & UVA which would further strengthen us as a basketball conference as well.

It seems from the articles I've read all over the web that college football makes up 80% of all revenue and basketball pretty much the other 20%, that adding these 4 would make us the premier conference in the land as we would now be known for both football and basketball.

I very much like this idea. It would be exciting to have the rivalries with our former ACC foes in both football and basketball. It makes sense from a geographical standpoint as well as well even an academic standpoint. FSU's academic reputation went up after it joined the ACC. Having UVA, Duke and UNC would bolster the academic reputation of the conference. I would also imagine other schools in the conference would want to bolster their academic reputations as well.

The Duke-UNC rivalry in basketball, according to one article is worth over a billion dollars. I can see the SEC wanting to be a part of that from a financial standpoint (Also help with the buyouts). If we got 4 ACC schools, that pact that is in place would ultimately dissolve.

I think it would be great to see games (basketball); us vs Duke, UNC, UVA. It would sell out the arena.. UT, UGA, UF, TX, Vandy, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas VS. those four would be monster for the conference and viewing audience.

It would mean we could have TERRIFIC games throughout the year in Football, Basketball & Baseball.

I hate UNC like the next person, but c'mon this would be win/win for the SEC and those ACC schools mentioned. The rivalries will mean more if they are in the conference.

I personally like the idea of playing schools in NC as I can drive to those venues...a little harder to get to Arkansas (I've done it), LSU and TX schools.

I am old enough to remember our bad blood with the ACC, but it's a new day and if the NC schools join the SEC, UNC would not rule the roost...lol

If we are talking basketball rivalries I agree, but TV markets is a different ball game.

Kansas is far better at basketball than UVa. You could poach them from the Big 12 easily.
OK so let's go with UNC, DUKE, Clemson and Kansas...that works for me...I want Clemson for football and UNC/Duke and Kansas for basketball...not bad...

If TV markets were as important as some say, the American Conference would be the power broker in college athletics. But it turns out that people in Charlotte, South Florida, Cincinnati, Dallas, Virginia, and Philadelphia would rather watch a football game between Tennessee and LSU than a game between any American Conference members. National audiences want to see compelling matchups and compelling matchups is what the SEC has been giving them for decades. Adding Clemson only boosts those compelling matchups for football and adding UNC, Duke, and UVA (or UNC, Duke, and KS) would boost the compelling matchups in basketball.

Just because the market is there doesn't get it done - have to have a product to sell to get viewership. American conference does not.
