All we can really talk about is whether or not Florida will offer him, so just stop speculating on his commitment to us, or how he said this or how he said that as to whether or not he would stay if offered - it is ludicrous. This is totally out of Byrne's control - he could offer him $4M a year, a Rolls Royce, and to personally iron his clothes for him every morning and it wouldn't matter. All he can really do is call Foley and beg him to interview Mullen first and try to make a decision as soon as possible so that we can move forward with or without Mullen. Florida is a top 5 job - period, end of discussion - I would not be pissed at him or blame him one bit - it would just be a really, really bad break for us.

then he can leave for all I care. It's a pretty crappy thing to do to take over the head coaching position at a school and then leave after one year. After 3-4 years, go ahead, nothing wrong with that. One year? That's just crappy.

So you would pass on a dream job if offered? If Mullen is offered, he should take it...these chances usually only come around once in a lifetime.

He did the same freakin thing...went from Pitt to Washington State...left and went back to Pitt when J. Majors went to UT....and you could not blame the guy one bit. I would not blame Mullen in the least. This is a very high dollar business where coaches can get fired...even at State. There is no guarantee he wins at State and you have to take the opportunities like UF when they come...period. That said, I don't think UF goes for Mullen. If he was there right now as the OC, yes, it is more logical to keep continuity, but that is not the case and they will go for a proven head coach...if those don't pan out, then maybe Mullen.....

and then leave after one year. Yep, I think Jackie was crappy for doing that. I think Mullen would be crappy for leaving after one year here, if that were to happen (which I don't believe it will).

If Mullen hauled *** for any random HC job I would totally agree. If offered by FLA, he will go...and he should. Again, it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I damn sure wouldn't pass up a dream job.

he wouldnt be leaving for some random job, it's Fla- the best job in the nation. You have a point if he were choosing to leave for Kansas or Purdue, but not for Fla. You dont work in middle management for years, and then after taking over a new division, they offer you the CEO job- and say "nahhhh, I just promised my guys I'd work to build this division the next 3-4 years"</p>

if he realizes that he can win 7 or 8 games a year at State, draw a very good salary in the millions that will continue to increase, and enjoy life. At Florida, he will be expected to win 11 or 12 games a year, and be in contention for the national championship every year...in other words, a helluva lot of pressure along with a lot more money. Having said that, he will still take it if offered.

You're talking about one of the top 5 best jobs in college football. He has every right to go if they offer and if he didn't he's a moron.

and then back out of that, your word essentially means nothing. Pardon me if I hold a coach to his word. I'd be ticked off if I was a recruit that signed with him this past year and then he left after spouting that kind of crap to me.</p>

For one, the media forces them into some bad positions.....so youre going to end up coming across bad even if you did everything to try and keep it from happening. Nature of the business

I don't care who you are, how long you've been where you are, or what level of commitment you have, if Florida calls, you go. That is, unless you're already at a slam dunk job like USC, Texas, Ohio State, or some other program with a loaded recruiting base and tons of financial support.

Florida is one of the best jobs, maybe THE best job in college football, and one of the easiest jobs. I don't think Mullen will get more than a courtesy look, if that, because Florida is going to be able to make a bigger hire, and Mullen doesn't have that resume yet, but if he did get a look, you couldn't blame him for leaving.

IMO should look hard at firing him now. whether msu and ole miss can compete yr in yr out for the sec chp or ever sniff a legit shot at the nat'l chp is an open question but neither of us needs a coach who doesn't both believe we can and want that. if mullen wanted to stay at msu to have a cushy 8 win requirement then he wouldn't be worth a damn. that said, if fla offers he's gone.

That would make you and many other rebel faithful very happy huh? Just admit that you don't like mullen because of fear of having to be our little bitches every year. The guy was trying to make a point and took it and spun it around to make it look bad. You guys have a ***** for a coach so you should be worrying about that. I will go out on a limb and say that your coach is not very good. He costs you a couple games because did not know how to get the ball in mccluster.hands

and you sound like an idiot saying otherwise. Does he make some bone headed moves? of course he does, they all do. But fact is he has been to the SECCG game a couple of times, and bad coaches dont do that

not yet at least. Not if Stoops and other proven coaches were possibilities.

And I agree that you shouldn't want a coach happy with 7-8 win seasons with no pressure. As a program, it's better than where either of us are right now, but still that's not the goal you want your coach happy with. Great coaches are driven to succeed.

he knew that Meyer was going to freak out after losing to Bama and consider stepping down.

I'm sure Dan meant what he said, and still means it, but I think he would be kind of crazy for not taking the UF job.

At least he would leave the program in better shape than when he took over, and we can't really ask much more than that. He would leave us in a position where we would be attractive to another coach who is good.
