I'm back, people. Here is my take on baseball...

I realize this board has suffered immensely in my absence.

I will not, at this time, get into the reasons for my absence.

But I will offer this: Raffo will be a status quo hire. If, indeed, he is hired as the next MSU baseball HC.

I can no longer take MSU baseball serious if Raffo is hired.

Personally, I am for John Cohen.

Cohen will turn this program around in less than a year (contrary to the predictions of patdog. Patdog, I love you man, but there is no way it will take "2 to 3 years" for MSU baseball to be righted if the correct hire is made.).

I do not wish to go the route of strawmen & red herrings so I will say this: Pretty much anybody except Raffo will turn this progaram around quickly.

I am a pro-Cohen person, but I remian open to anybody but Raffo.

I love MSU baseball. I am convinced Ron Polk set MSU baseball back a decade.

But I do not return to bash Polk (even considering my handle)...I return convinced the right hire (or even the semi-right hire) will have MSU back in the mix next spring.

MSU baseball can withstand the undermining of egos like Polk.

Next year, given the right hire (or, as mentioned, even a semi-right hire), MUS baseball will be back in the hunt.

Meanwhile, I find humor in your football predictions.

PS

My archives are now busting at the seams.

Don't f*ck with Ronny, because Ronny will post something that will bury you.

PSS:

Glad to be back.

Me & about 5 other quality posters kept this board alive.

I'm back, people. Now let's concentrate on this baseball hire.

I sincerely look for MSU to be a post-season team next year if the proper hire is made.

Yes, I was gone.

But this baseball scenario is too serious.

I realize my expertise take is required in this instance, so I "returned."

I never would have guessed you did not like Polk and did not want Raffo to replace him? Learn something new every day.

I really hope you're right about that. But talent-wise, our new coach isn't going to step into a much better situation than the one Cohen stepped into when he took over at Kentucky. It takes talent to win and we just don't have the talent right now. I think we've signed all of 5 players for next year and this year's recruiting is pretty much over. So the new coach isn't going to be able to bring in any of his own players until the 2010 season. I do think that next year, with the right coach, we could do about what Mississippi did this year (on the bubble for the SEC tournament and a #3 seed at a regional), but I don't consider that to be competitive for MSU baseball. When I talk about MSU baseball being competitive, I'm talking about super regionals. And I don't see that happening for 2-3 years no matter who the coach is.

You are correct.

I am thrilled Polk is gone.

Now MSU baseball can finally move into the 21st century.

I take MSU baseball seriously.

For MSU to not be in a regional (regardless of the excuses) is an abomination.

"Anybody but Raffo" is my current motto.

And I don't think that motto is in the minority.

..You are one of the best posters here so I take you seriously.

...I have to disagree with you on this: I saw MSU baseball on TV about 3 times this past season. I think they won all 3 games.

My point being, they seemed to lack coaching & not talent.

Does the pitching need to be improved? Of course.

But the core talent is there.

There, simply put, was no coaching.

Injuries hurt, of course. But the core talent seems to be there.

The pitching coach, who I liked in the past, needs to be sent packing.

Give this team 2 pitchers who can pitch 4 pitches (instead of 3) and you've got a regional team.

Like I said, anybody but Raffo. I don't think I'm in the minority by calling for anybody but Raffo.

..and in the next you say we'll be back in the hunt next year if we hire the right coach?

My question: Teams that have been set back a decade... what do they hunt for?

don't bother him with facts or his own contradictions of himself, he is on a roll.....

The sixpack is just lucky that he is back to posting. Without RonnyAtmosphere (and like 5 other super cool posters), the sixpack board would wither up and die on the vine.

So please don't piss him off....we just can't afford for this board to fade into obscurity should Ronny decide to withdraw from here....

You "hunt for" somebody that gets really pissed off when you lose.

Is that Polk? No. Is that Raffo? Who gives a sh*t.

Is that Cohen? Yes.

I totally agree. It is our attitude that must be changed. I have seen it for years, that losing is not taken personally.

Also to the point that it won't take 2-3 years. It won't take that long for you to see a change in the offense. But it may take a couple of years to get the arms that are needed to compete at a higher level.

I believe we have several hitters who would benefit from Cohen's coaching ability. Powers, Moore, Freeman, Hogue, and a few others have the ability to be great college hitters and would do extremely well with Cohen's aggressive attitude and offensive approach.

he's already set us back the better part of a decade. And if I'm right that it'll take the new coach 2-3 years to get us really competitive, that would be 9-10 years.

I think it will take 2-3 years to be back also. Cohen or O'Connor could turn it around in a year with talent but how many of our "talented" players transfer will have an effect on that too. Plus the pitching needs more than just coaching right now. If the right players stay with the right new coach and we recruit very well then we could on the way back in 2 years.

Good grief.

But yeah, MSU baseball has the talent and could be back next year.

the main thing is going to be getting healthy and staying healthy. Guys like Crosswhite and Whitney have done it before, and they can do it again. We do need to get better as far as talent if we are talking NC, however. We haven't had a bona fide SEC ace since Maholm, although Lea would've been had he not gotten hurt. Crosswhite and Whitney should be middle relivers for us. A new coach will probably make a big difference with the other pitchers.

You could have bashed Polk and the team the entire season but you didn't. Your reasons for being gone are probably legit so I'll just say....welcome back to the pack!
