I'm constantly bombarded by "The Highest rated Hearing Aid" Ads...

Just Google woman’s swimwear and sites like Victoria’s Secret and your ad feed changes for the better.
Don’t underestimate the potential for hearing loss to become socially debilitating. (I have 60 years experience. I cope.)
Not with people who know me. If I’m in a small group with some cousins, for example, it works out fine. I’ve worked hard in speech therapy, my deaf voice is serviceable. (I actually taught as a TA at Tennessee, spoke for myself.) I pick my spots. For example, I always try to get a little 1-1 with my cousins, it works best that way. If it’s too loud, I’ll have issues. (First thing I do once I’ve arrived in an unfamiliar venue is ask how loud I need to talk to be understood.) I suck at small talk, sure, but so do a hell of a lot of other people. My cousins bring out the best in me.
But, other than family and my wife’s college friends, when I go out I’ll be with people who ASL. I cope.
But there are some people I just cannot lipread. One of my brothers-in-law, that sucks. But I do my best.
