Wow! I remember taking one which hit half helmet and half ear in HS which rung my bell pretty good, but nothing like this.
Anybody got HBP/Beaning stories from your playing days?

Got hit square on the side of the knee once. I couldn’t let him know or hurt, so I immediately starting jogging to first only to find out my leg was numb from the knee down. Pretty sure by the gait he knew it hurt.

It takes a brave batter to go back in the box and face an inside 99mph fast ball and not bail out of the box.

I had two root canals in adulthood on my front teeth, and eventually apicoectomies and crowns on them, from getting hit in the mouth with a baseball when I was 10 years old. I was in the outfield about to catch a line drive (ole Diz would have called it a "blue darter") when one of the other outfielders cut in front of me, tipped the ball, and deflected it to my mouth.

I killed the teeth then and didn't know it. Later they darkened and actually began to chip around the edges. They are still with me at age 72, but in a greatly altered form.

Sorry about that. I should've backed off that ball. ⚾

That would have likely ended my career right there. Gotta have some stones and/or serious mental fortitude to climb back in. Dang.

Did it alter your baseball career going forward?

I was playing 2B, and we were turning a 6-4-3. I catch the flip, turn and fire. For some reason the runner was running to the inside of the baseline, and he was a big dude. He didn't slide or try to duck off to the side. Just kept running straight for me. I didn't have time to react to it, I knew we had to rush bc the batter was fast. I let it fly right into his face. His nose was shattered, blood went everywhere. I felt bad, b/c I'm pretty sure he had to have a surgery or two, but come on dude. What are you thinking??

Took one for the team. Or, failed to follow most important base running rule, get down!
