Does any other school pay their women's basketball coach as much as we do?
It's an interesting concept, and would be a curious experiment. You kind of wonder if her style and coaching methods would translate to the men's game. Kind of makes me think about that interview with Serena Williams, where she said men's tennis is like a whole different sport. At the moment, there aren't many players in the WNBA or women's college basketball that can drive the basket and Dunk in people's faces. It's a small part of the game, but it's a part of the game that the women's leagues don't typically deal with. I wonder if there are other differences in the game that would be difficult to account for? I'm not much of a basketball fan, and I really don't know much about the game other than the basics of the rules. But, game recognizes game, and she has been successful. So it would be curious to see if she had the coaching chops to make a transition to a different league.
There's no reason a woman couldn't succeed in the men's game. But I think Dawn has honed her system of success around how the women's game is played and the ecosystem of women's basketball from the youth game to the international game to the college game to the WNBA. It would be jarring to have to jump into an ecosystem and style of play she's not an expert in.
If someone started earlier in their career working and coaching in the men's system as a woman, sure - success could be earned.
I think success for Dawn would be difficult (not impossible). If I were her, I don't think I would want to make the change - for many reasons.
