Can someone explain why we need an intermission break in the middle of a wrestling match and when it was implemented?

I don’t think it adds anything to the a match and actually works to interrupt the momentum and flow, IMHO

I go to University at Buffalo matches and no intermission. These aren’t televised like many B10 matches. Would think TV would want breaks to run promos and do commentary etc.

I understand the TV timeouts which appear at regular intervals throughout both the lower and upper weight matches. But the mid match intermission lasts a lot longer than a TV timeout and doesn’t seem to serve any real purpose, except maybe to extend the total event runtime.

Against Md, PSU made short order of the Terps, even with an exhibition match, and it still didn’t approach a full 2 hour run time.

Intermission has gotta be for TV timeout. Commercials..? For me it adds nothing to the meet. If you need a break, I’d check the lineup and see the weakest bout - and bolt and return in time for the next match. That’s how I introduced myself to Mike Kemmerer at NCAAs. He must have had the same idea as me. 😝😉.

Michigan State not only eliminated the intermission but had no time between bouts. The next two guys were on the mat before the previous bout participants were completely off. Poor Jeff Byers couldn't squeeze in the commercials!

Wonder if that was because it wasn’t televised (other than Big Ten Plus)? Sounds reasonable.

I guess I can live with an intermission if I can watch on TV then.

Byers has trouble squeezing in commercials even when there are commercial breaks.

Loved this...it was awesome and non-stop action!
