is taking place Friday & Saturday (12/9 & 12/10).

Looking through the pre-seeds, it appears that the following PSU verbals (V) or possible targets (T) are participating. Feel free to post updates on how they do throughout the tournament.

113: Bo Bassett (T)
120: Jax Forrest (T)
120: Luke Lilledahl (T)
120: Cael Nasdeo (V)
126: Mason Gibson (V)
157: Joe Sealy (V)

Sorry if I missed any verbals or possible targets. It's a very long list of names to wade through.

150 - PJ Duke (T)
285 - Carter Neves (V)

Rune Lawrence is at 190. Not sure if a PSU target, but the coaches are probably paying attention.

I am NOT making this up: the 1 seed at 215 is named Jersey Robb.

Gibson has an interesting path: McGowan in the semis, then Davino in the finals.

I have to go to a wrestling match, so no updates from me on this until Friday evening. If others can provide them, that would be great.

appreciate those that posted results. I thought I was going to a 2 or 3 team meet, that would take @ 2 hours. It ended up being a 9-team JV tournament. I was reffing for 6 1/2 hours. There were 3 of us manning 2 mats, and there was no food, and no built in breaks. So the only break I got was for a few matches when we'd rotate and I rotated into the off official position. smh

According to the brackets, Nasdeo lost 4-0 to Blaze. (Blaze was who then lost to DeLuca.)

Nasdeo won his first consi match 9-1. He gets 11 seed Hockaday next. After that would be 4 Raney.

Both Gibson and Sealey lose their semifinal matches.

Gibson 2-1 UTB. Neither wrestler was close to scoring a TD. I do not think Gibson touched McGowan's leg and was not close to earning an escape in OT.

Gibson lost 5-2 in the Consi Semifinals. Again, no real offense. Missed a headlock with 3 seconds to go to give his opponent his last 2. Seems to be neutralized by the length of the opponent and good ties.

Gibson won 5th 3-1 SV. Happy to see him get a TD. His defense and conditioning are stellar. Lots of movement when not tied up, but I think the length difference between his opponents keeps him from being able to get to his offense.

Sealey lost 5-3 but was on the other kids legs the whole match but could only finish one shot. The other kid defended the whole match and took advantage of two bad shots by Sealey. He just needs to learn how to finish on athletic kids that like to roll through and catch a leg. I think he is the better wrestler; the other kid was a strategic match.

Sealey wins Cons Semi 5-1 (2TD 1E. Better job finishing shots and showed he can count on his ride against a tough opponent.

Sealey wins 3rd place 5-2 (2TD and 1 E). Looked good, very aggressive. I like the way he wrestles and again showed he can ride when he wants to. He had 5 good scoring opportunities and only had to defend one decent shot. All of his opponents are cautioned for stalling. Consolation matches only 5 minutes but in college he would have gotten a ridding time point in his last two matches.

Bassett wins 9-0: Escape and TD in 2nd, TD, Stall Point, and 3NF in 3rd.

Lilledahl a 3-1 SV win. Lots of action and great defense.

Lawrence pinned OKST commit AJ Heeg in 0:32, in the 3rd place match at 190.

Speaking from the perspective of a ref, it's pretty rare to see a pin at that weight class in 32 sec unless there is a huge talent discrepancy. And while I almost never ref people that are the level of having verballed to OKST, guys like that very rarely get pinned in 32 sec. even when wrestling against other top wrestlers.

Agree. Gibsons height is going to be an issue finishing, especially in college. Hopefully he keeps his weight down.

Gibson can be game-planned against. Maybe PSU can help him there. The real targets are Forrest and Bassett. They are the real deal and in 9th grade. The finals between Forrest and Lilledahl was one of the best HS matches I can remember having seen (of course, I'm old and can't remember that much) -- two great wrestlers wrestling great.
Bassett's (and Forrest's) style can fit right in at PSU: relentless pressure. His final opponent, Jordan, kept with him for well over a period and a half. It was close late in the 2nd period when Jordan hit the wall. He had nothing left. Bassett majored him from there on out, including 2 stalling points. The poor kid was helpless.
P J Duke is a must-get, imo. This kid is creative, fast, and fearless. If Bassett's mode of operation reminded me of ZTrain, when Duke was firing on all cylinders, he reminded me of Nolf. The 3rd period of his final bout had some moves in there that should be preserved for posterity. You could see that Duke was hurting. It looked like he hurt his shoulder. One more injury time-out and he was through. I remember thinking, "This kid has had it. He's just trying to survive." Instead he had a all-guns-a-blazing spectacular 3rd period.
Duke is on my Christmas wish list.

The issue with Duke may be that he, unfortunately, may fall in to a weight range where PSU is very young and deep with talent already. SVN, Kasak, Perry, Haines, Facundo, Sealy. Now, who knows how some of those guys, including Duke, grow because they are still young. But, that appears to already be 6 guys for 2-3 weight classes. However, Cael has gotten creative in the past with eligibility and spacing guys out, so who knows.

Heeg is a Fargo finalist. It's not a major talent discrepancy.

I didn't see the match, just will note that it may have been a takedown transition. Lawrence is one of those guys who can sink the half from anywhere, like Garrett Scott could.
