he will have a team next year that will at least make it to the final sixteen...and going that far is about as good as they expect...in basketball. They don't really give one about basketball, just want to be respectable.

when someone on the pack asks if another SEC basketball coach with as good or better record than Stans should be fired.
this will be the second year that Gottfried has missed the NCAA's. Before that he went to 5 straight which included an elite 8.

If Stans had that kind of record you would have laughed off the board last year asking if it was Stans last year.
Yet here there are people saying that the guy can stay because "Alabama doesnt care about basketball"

I didn't ask whether or not he should be fired, I asked if he would be fired. Yes, record wise he is comparable to Stans. However, Bama has that "holier than thou" attitude in all sports and has a reputation of having short leashes with their coaches. Personally, I hope he stays there for a while. It makes our rivalry that much better when not only do the teams not like each other, the coaches loathe one another.

Its a bait post with no substance to it. First, there were people talking about the possiblity of whether Stans should stay after last year. Second Gottfried has one Elite 8 appearance but other than that has never made it past the second round. He has less titles, SEC wins, overall wins and tourney titles. Bottomline- Some people just like to complain.

Ron Steele will be back next year. Steele's injury and having to sit out this season has been Gottfried's built in excuse all year. They will be tough next year. They're tough THIS year.

They are not tough this year. They are sitting at 3-8 in the conference and 14-12 overall. Nothing about that is "tough"

R Hendrix is most likely gone after this year. He graduates and is likely a 1st round pick. Late 1st roud but 1st round.
With TWO knee surgeries, its not likely Steele will be the old Steel of 2 years ago either, that and he hasnt really played much bball in 2 years.

He will be back. I don't think even Alabama has enough to buy him out not with what they are paying Saban. Besides, spring football starts soon, and Bama nation will forget about basketball.

UAT & Gottfried last went to the NCAA in 2006 year before last, Stan and MSU went in 2005 which would have been two years ago.
