Is it possible for PSU to catch lighting in a bottle this season?

Possible? Yes. Probable? No. I don't foresee the day when I will be optimistic for PSU to be preseason contenders for a national championship, nor do I foresee the day when college football will resemble what I grew up loving.

This sounds funny but I don't like to share my thoughts on PSU football here because someone will run their mouths and insult me.

It's just not worth arguing about. There's no real passion and there never will be again. Just regrets. And anger. And the list of people who should pay a price for what they did over the last 10 years or so.

Penn State doesn’t have any proven WRs who are legitimate threats. Sad, but true.

This team is not capable of catching lightning in a bottle.

For me I think the offense will score points. It's going to be up to the defense to hold the fort down. 2 new coordinators so that will be interesting to see how both sides of the ball progress. I am interested in Allen to see when all he has to worry about is the defense and can spend all his time focused there.

The question had nothing to do with catching lightning in a bottle, which admittedly is difficult. Catching lighting in a bottle can be quite easy. For instance, thread a string of small Christmas lights (the twinkly kind) into a bottle, plug them in, and voila! lighting in a bottle.

You're welcome, folks!

semi-pro football, who cares?
I'm am now in that group. For the past 5-10 years I watched dispassionately, preferring wins to losses but not really caring much either way. Now, with paid players and uncontrolled free agency, I really don't care at all. That said, many on this board apparently still do care. For them, I wish safe travels, good times, and many wins.

I agree with lots of this but I’m guessing you’re coming from a position of imagined principle and im from a position of it’s bad football.

Sadly, fair, we are in the same place. If I am home, and a game happens to be on I will watch. But I no longer schedule my Saturdays around watching.

Possibly you can add 1973 as well.

Thought about it, but we were really dissed that year - ended #5. Would've been an uphill climb to make the jump to #1. (Ih, and for you youngsters, we beat an SEC team (LSU) in the bowl game that season.

You may be right but the end result is the same. It's no longer worth the investment my time. I agree that it's bad football. If I want to watch men making more money than I do I would prefer to watch the best and that is the NFL. Any pretense that winning at the college level is for the glory of Dear Old State is laughable.

sad and true. Still I watch every game, even if I gotta TiVo. May go to the WVU game, break in the tiara grab a warm cot
I think this may be the year I will watch no games at all. Of course, if they are unbeaten going into the USC and Ohio State games I will be sorely tempted. On the other hand, I think it's likely they will have a loss, or maybe two, headed into USC. Looking at the schedule, I predict 8-4, but a low of 7-5, or a high of 9-3, would not surprise me.

Ben Franklin properly caught lightning via a kite and a key.

James Franklin has no such hope....he's more likely to fail professionally (not financially) because he's a horrible football coach.
