Is it possible, that as a coach, Cael Sanderson is one of the greatest ever.

I grew up in the city of Philadelphia. Wrestling was never a sport that was promoted. But being a Penn Stater, and testifying to the brilliance of our wrestling program since Cael was hired, leads me to believe he is.

What he has done at Penn State is nothing short of amazing. If CJF needs a role model for spotting and recruiting incredible talent, taking that talent into the room and grooming it into champions, and coaching that is second to none, look no further than Cael.

And it doesn't hurt that the Mount Rushmore of college wrestling would include Cael's face prominently displayed. The guy went 159-0 in his career, with 4 national championships and an Olympic gold medal.

Also, he won three Hodge trophies while coaching three wrestlers to five Hodge trophies.

Cael is great, however football and wrestling recruiting are night and day different.

The best and most classy coach in any sport at this time
What makes him so great is that he wins, does it the right way, is a quiet and confident leader, and never ever calls attention to himself. That’s what I respect about him the most. He’s the anti-Brands brothers. Wins at a higher rate than Saban, runs a clean program focused on recruiting and hard work. Dare I say Success with Honor?

I hate us.

Agree. It helps when you're located in the middle of the best high school wrestling in the country and most colleges in the South don't have wrestling programs.

WDLION-Yes it helps that PSU is located in the middle of the best high school wrestling in the country. HOWEVER, I saw PSU wrestle at Cornell the year before Cael took over. We had like 2 wrestlers who actually looked good that year and the rest were listless, unaggressive, and unexciting. Team was totally
mediocre and I believe we were still located in the middle of the best high school wrestling. We WERE NOT WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS! WIthin 2 years of his coaching this amazing streak started. YES, being in the middle of the best high school wrestling helped and I believe was a factor in Cael coming to PSU-but what Cael has done is truly remarkable. Most of his wrestlers are terrific students and citizens as well! I have briefly interacted with him at autograph signings and he is as gracious and pleasant as can be. He has also built the Nittany Lion Club into an international center for men and women wrestlers. Our new AD MUST make sure Cael is happy at PSU, give him what he needs, and thus keep this amazing tradition going at PSU. There is a lot of Big 10 competition for the top wrestlers-scholarships are very limited-and thus keeping at the top will always be tough-but trust in Cael and we hopefully will continue doing well and have more national championships and individuals champions-plus hopefully another PSU wrestler winning a gold medal at the Olympics.

No doubt about Cale being the best. Change in attitude of wrestlers was evident day one and has just gotten better every year since.

He is amazing. His resume speaks for itself, but I think he has a remarkable ability to master and channel the emotion of the athletes (especially on the 'big stages').
All seriousness aside...Sandy laughs. Cale was putty in her hands and she molded him under her 'toot' 'allege' style (along with an assistant athletic director or two).

In no way was my post meant to take away what Cael has accomplished at Penn State. He is the reason for the success. Big name coach, great location equals marriage made in heaven. Cael came to Penn State because he knew he could recruit a lot better here than he could at Iowa State.
