Is Mullen to Florida too far-fetched?

Not asking for a bunch of smart *** comments here...but seriously...as far as continuity goes(and schematically), is there anyone better suited for the job than Dan Mullen? Again, I'm just looking for intelligent speculation, not a bunch of ppl telling me what a moron I am. I honestly think that it COULD be a possibility.

I think Dan Mullen will be successful here and move up in a few years, but at this point he is a guy with one year's experience as HC and a 5-7 record. While he was a great assistant at Florida, they desire more from a potential head coach than one 5-7 season.

I'm shaking in my pants right now thinking about the possibilities. Surely Mullen has something to prove here at state before he leaves.

if he were still the offensive coordinator. Foley has a long history of taking coaches from MSU.

That being said, Florida football could hire anyone they want.

Short list will probably include:

The Scientologist - he has to be considered
Nick Saban - money isn't an object
Kyle Whittingham - another successful Utah coach
Gary Patterson - could be the best hire possible
Houston Nutt - hey, its a job opening!
Will Muschamp - have to throw a top assistant in

Phone calls will be made and not returned:

Steve Spurrier
Sly Croom

thinking that Charlie Strong is kicking himself right now?

I really don't know who they will hire. If I were them, I'd give Houston's coach a long look. I thought he did a really good job, but he might be too young and not ready for them. I would also look at Patterson for sure. I can't see Boise State's coach coming to the South. I might give Bob Stoops a call and at least see if he's interested. He has ties to UF. They may look at an NFL guy like a Tony Dungy.

To me, this could be similar to when they hired Zook. It's going to be hard to top what Meyer did at UF. I'd hate to be the guy that follows Urban Meyer at UF.

I don't know if that would be the right situation for Mullen or Strong.

You're right in that this next guy will be heavily scrutinized and in a difficult position from day one like Ron Zook was.

It may be best for Strong and Mullen to establish their head coaching careers elsewhere and then look to move to another school.

The Florida job would be a tremendous amount of pressure for a relatively young head coach.

is to take that job. I don't believe he will be offered. Look at how many followed Bear Bryant before they got a winner and a loss to State got him fired. Ole Miss has never been able to compete at the level they were with Johnny Vaught.
Look at how many tried. LSU went through Hell and Back before they were able to get back on track. It is sudden death for Mullen and a number of others that might go there. They are in a rough spot! To gamble on someone who is a "favorite" and not a "proven" seldom works. I think we are secure with Mullen until he proves himself! And, then there will be some options on both sides. I have faith that our AD will handle whatever the challenge becomes! GARY PATTERSON IS THE BEST MAN FOR THAT JOB!! Florida has to go with someone that is proven!

I would imagine they see Mullen the way we saw Raffo. He needs to prove that he can be the head guy somewhere else before they hire him. I just don't see Florida going after an assistant BUT this is happening late in the coaching carousel so anything can happen.
