Is there anything to do on the coast other than gamble?

Harbor Lights in Gulfport is good for a family or romantic outing. Charbroiled oysters at a couple of places are good. The White Pillars has a cool bar, good food and an especially amazing korean pork belly appetizer.

Eat, fish and tour the barrier islands. I don’t gamble so when I’m down there I eat. Ocean springs has a pretty cool downtown if you like to shop, eat or drink. Gulfport opened up a new aquarium if you have kids. I will take my kids to Biloxi beach but we don’t really get in the water. If you like running or biking HWY 90 has a great wide sidewalk for a good long ways.

There is a good bit to do, but it’s not overwhelming. I spend about 8 weekends a year down there with family, but I’m sure those that live on the coast will have more suggestions.

Eat the best food in Mississippi. Fish. Walk. Bike. There’s shopping if that’s what you’re into. Downtown BSL is the coolest area at night. Try to go on the second Saturday of the month.

If you like to golf, try to find a tee time for Sunkist in Biloxi- not extravagant but fairly priced and quiet.

Go enjoy downtown OS, just not on a weekend night unless you like the young drunk crowd. Take a photo by the Lovelace sign, locals know what I mean.

100 year oak trees on Lover’s Lane are a must.

Take a stroll through Long Beach down by Dan B’s and the shops- it’s gorgeous around sunset.

Ship Island shuttle is great in Biloxi.

Gulf Island National Seashore is beautiful.

Jimmy Buffet beach, what we call Goula beach, is nice during the day but not close to as nice as Front Beach in OS.

Mary Mahoney’s in Biloxi is a must if you visit as well.

This is a very scattered post because I’m just thinking of things off the top of my head and typing but the Mississippi Gulf Coast is an absolute treasure and I’d be glad to show you or anyone around this beautiful place I call home.

If I recall, you posted a while ago asking about another place and indicated you don’t like to drink or eat out or golf? Maybe a few other things?

Might help if you reminded us of what is out for you.

In general, if you don’t like to drink or gamble or eat out, the coast is definitely more of a warm or warmish weather place. Lots of beautiful scenery, especially if it’s warm enough to get out on the water, whether out front or in the back or up the rivers.

If you like minor league baseball mgm stadium is a good minor league venue. Obviously not relevant now.

If you like music, not a great music scene but the casinos will bring in some good acts kind of geared towards people mostly in their 50’s and up, but some for people in their 40’s and very occasionally 30’s.

Also will occasionally have good stand up comics or cirque shows.

More to do than anywhere else in Mississippi unless you have a very specific niche you’re looking for (like blues stuff or antebellum mansions to tour). But a definitely geared towards people that enjoys hanging out with a drink in their hand.

It's not that I don't like to eat out. It's just I will almost certainly be alone. And the nicer the place, the weirder it feels to me to go alone. I do drink, but just driving a few hours just to drink someplace different doesn't seem worth it. And I quit golf a long time ago.

You got any?

Where I live the law considers weed smokers as people surfing the knife edge of madness and liable to break out in a drug fueled frenzy of rape, murder, and jazz

Maybe it's just me, but I'm the opposite. The nicer the place, the more comfortable I am sitting at the bar and eating. More likely to come across other people on business or just have natural conversations with people that are having a drink while they wait for their table. And more likely to have a good bartender to talk to if it's not busy. Plus, although not really relevant to me, more likely to have women come up and talk to me at a bar in a nice restaurant. Even when they have a limited menu, I find the bar menu usually offers me what I like or even is better because I can get a couple of small plates.

If you go, the bar at White Pillars is a great place to sit and eat.

As far as going to a new place just to drink, it is worth it to me to be able to drink and look out over the water. Lots of options for that on the coast, whether you want to be casual or dressy, inside or outside. 32 has a nice bar with good view, Margaritaville's has a casual but not dive bar with a good view (it is very much like drinking at a chain restaurant, but the view is great). If the weather is nice, you can pretty much pick any of the beach restaurants.

But yea, I probably wouldn't make a trip to just do that when it's cold. If I'm making a trip to just eat and drink and the weather's cold, I'd probably go ahead and drive to New Orleans, although it's not as good as usual with them being idiots over COVID.

And that's really what I want to do is just get out of the house. But I so much of what I can drive to seems like I have been there and done that, or it's just too damn cold for me. And I don't want to get on an airplane yet because the government is being run by idiots over Covid.

Eat, fish, shows, ride the beach, other outdoors activities. Just as much to do there as a lot of places. Water isn’t great for swimming but lot of people still go to the beach.

This seems a strange question based on your name here. Do you live in Mobile? If so, how do you only know about gambling living in a coastal community?

Even if you don't like gambling, the Casinos can be fun to hang out for a while.

1. The Hard Rock Hotel lobby has a lot of cool memorabilia.
2. The lobby of the Beau Rivage is all decked out for Christmas (and Easter).
3. Most of the upscale casinos have nice buffets, and very nice sports book bars with huge screens to watch sporting events. I have watched MSU football (piss and a miss), MSU beat Ole Miss in baseball, and MSU basketball games... it's also interesting watching the Iron Bowl... the fans get into it (almost like at the stadium), and you may see a few catfights. the best sports book bars are Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, Scarlet Pearl

If you like to fish, deep sea fishing out of Biloxi.

The Reef Skybar has a great view of the beaches (nice sunsets).

There are a lot of great fresh seafood places on the coast... McElroys Harbor House is right on the water, and you can check out the yachts.

The one titty bar I have ever been to on the coast was bad. Like terrabad. Three dancers, one looked like a boy, one was missing teeth, and there was one who was ok. They sold no booze, but you could go the gay bar in the same building and get a drink.

So NOW we know why you've got such a hankerin' to go back to the Coast.

Location: Montgomery, Al

No I do not live in Mobile

Oh, ok.

Well as others are saying there's tons of interesting things to do in coastal places that aren't gambling. Arts, eating, sports, fishing, eco touring, hunting etc etc.

Based on your interests you can find great things to do for a day or a week.

The China virus knocked out most of the buffets at the casinos. The Palace and Treasury Bay still have them and my favorite is the Palace. The Palace is also non-smoking, the only one on the coast so that helps a lot.

Also in Ocean Springs, Anthony's Under the Oaks restaurant. The view of Fort Bayou is worth the visit, and the food makes it even better.
