I didn't want Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC when it first started being rumored. All that did was push MSU down the SEC pecking order 2 spots from wherever we were.....pretty close to bottom and probably at the bottom depending on what Vandy can do. I would have preferred programs that we had a chance to compete with like VaTech and OKST, etc. Bringing in 2 powerhouses did nothing for us.....just made MSU the provider for wins on the Big Boys spreadsheet. Most here and on other boards disagreed with me. However, I think David Murray didn't want them in the SEC either. We now will have to scratch, claw, and hope we get a little lucky to move up the SEC ranks. We were a small market team then and even smaller now. Sad about the reality and it's showing everywhere. If we end up having a bang-up year in softball, you have to know we won't keep our softball coach for long either.

the way some posters who come on here and defend the coaches, Selmon and the Athletic Department with so much butt hurt, I think the Athletics Department has a user ID and different people from the department logs in, monitor and post all the defense.

Can't dispute that this is an awful year. All I can say is that 9th in the SEC in basketball this year, as disappointing as it was, undersells how good of a year it was because of the strength of the conference, just like some of those football years when we were 8th were better than they look because we would play 3 or 4 top 12 teams and fall behind some east teams that werent' that good but had an easier schedule.

There is no doubt that this board has its share of athletic department sycophants who are tasked to engage in truckling and bootlicking defense or adulation of the pork palace's indefensible @$$hattery.

The last month of our basketball season was a complete collapse. It devalued everything we’d done earlier, and had some BAD losses down the stretch. It was inevitable we’d be 1-and-done in the tourney. And every single bit of it is on Jans ineptitude to manage the roster he created.

The last decent season we had in all three sports, our coaches were Moorhead, Lemonis and Howland.

Outback Bowl loss, #5 seed in NCAA Tournament upset in first round, 1-2 finish in Omaha (5th Place).

If you told me that was going to be the height of my Mississippi State fandom, I would have enjoyed that year a little more.

From 1960 to 1990 or 1991 to 2025.... which time span is what State truely is?

or.... did the beginning of NIL and a no rules portal totally change the game and the key to focus on?

I think NIL is why our talent level is lower across the board.

We'll see in the rest of the tournament if the conference was as tough as we thought, or...........not?

Either way, if it shows that we were good it also shows how far so many others in the conference are ahead of us which still means comparatively speaking we were bottom of the barrel or a "half full glass" at best.

Football is bad but an NCAA tourney is bad? Jesus, go look at our history people. We've got some real dumbasses. Baseball we don't know yet. Women in tourney. Softball looks solid. Damn our fans are who is at low. They suddenly think we've been some kind of power in the past.

This is an awful sports year we are having.

The criteria you are using is not objective at all. I’m having a hard time taking you seriously when you completely ignore things like a baseball national title in 2021, and say we were 5th in the SEC in Years 2 and 3 of Leach. We may have been tied with like 4 other teams in each of those years, but we have beem nowhere close to the 5th best SEC football team at any point since 2014, and everybody knows that. And finishing 9th in men’s basketball this year is in no way equivalent to the same thing as finishing 9th in the 2010’s

As for this year:
It was an awful football season, which is what folks might as well get used to moving forward.

Basketball was pretty much at or very near the ceiling for what is achievable at MSU going forward.

Baseball has played one series. Even including them at this point is ridiculous.

On top of those 3, women’s soccer had a historic season and won an SEC title. Women’s basketball made the NCAA Tourney, and softball team appears to be very good.

You could have just started and ended that rant with, “man, we sure suck at football”.

Probably remains to be seen on NIL. It's still early, but I agree.....MSU has some serious warning signs showing in that department despite a few generous donations. We're not gonna compete with TX & OK in NIL We're just not. We could have vs a VaTech, OKState, or somebody like them. Don't get me wrong.....adding TX & OK helps the conference vs other conferences, it's just not going to help us and a few other lower to middling SEC teams.

I'm not sure that anyone here actually wanted Texas or Oklahoma in the SEC. A lot of us were sure it was inevitable, but I don't recall anyone cheering it on. If I'd have a vote it would have been to give those ******** A&M and Missouri back instead.

How do you think he should have handled it differently? Or is the complaint more with the construction?
We couldn’t do much of anything right. Kugel’s TOs, Hubbards cold streaks, etc. Construction, I’d say, since we didn’t have better options to spell these problems when we needed to.

You women’s soccer and softball apologists need to get real. Even women’s basketball, even though they got a ton of media attention when they beat Connecticut eight years ago.

Those sports do not matter. At all. I am happy that we do well but no one says “I want to go to State because women’s soccer won the SEC”.

I’d bet you couldn’t find 100 high school students that even knew we won the SEC in soccer. You know what they do know? Ole Miss is rolling in football and they beat North Carolina today.

We are in a crisis. Better start giving scholarships to 18 ACT students instead of 20.

Who are the apologists? Simply noting that those sports are all punching well above their weight currently does not make one an apologist. Especially when all 3 are mentioned as a mere footnote to the athletic year as whole.

Those sports do not matter. At all. I am happy that we do well but no one says “I want to go to State because women’s soccer won the SEC”.

I mean they aren’t my favorite sports either, but whether or not they “matter” is kind of in the eye of the beholder. I guess we’ll have to split ways on this one, as I never have doled out my interest in MSU sports proportionally based on the likelihood of them attracting high schoolers to MSU. That shít doesn’t really matter to me that much. If that’s your MO, then again, just say “we suck at football” and be done with it. None of the other sports matter according to your metric.

We are in a crisis. Better start giving scholarships to 18 ACT students instead of 20.

Or decrease enrollment by raising academic standards, thus decoupling sports success from serious students a little bit more, and make more of an effort towards out of state students, with great academic and financial pedigrees. If you want to be Ole Miss, that’s where to start. It’ll take minimum 30 years to build up a network like they have now. But that’s the only way a school in Mississippi can do it.
