Yeah, I mean he gets the equivalent of about $55-$60k to play a kids game every day for 5-6 months a year, and do whatever the hell he wants for the other half of the year. And whether he gets called up or not, he still gets to lay claim to being one of the top 0.0001% of baseball players on planet Earth either way.

There are worse outcomes, for sure.
God again…. Aaa players make about 35-40k a year.

Equivalent of $55-$60k a year does not mean “their salary is $55-$60k per year”.

On top of salary, they get housing paid for in-season, home and away. That’s about 6 months of rent or hotel being paid for by the club. That’s about $7,000-$9,000 when you consider utilities / cable / internet and what not.

Two meals per day provided by team during the season. That’s about $40 per day for 180ish days. Another $7200.

$30 per day per diem in-season. That’s another $5400.

Essentially 3 months where they don’t need gas. $500-$600 there.

Not even going to mention all the free gear and other stuff they get, extra perks from random PR stuff, free access to gym / workout / training facilities, and what have you.

Add it all up, and its another $20,000 (tax free, might I add) on the low end. Added to $35k-$40k, you get $55k-$60k. Its almost like I actually read up on this before posting.

He also gets housing provided & 2 meals per day provided. So that’s a couple of big expenses he avoids. And he gets a $30/day per diem. So basically no cost of living for 6 months. Not a bad deal.

I’d love to be your accountant. 70 dollars a day in meals, 1500 a month for rent…. Good grief. Ok. If you think clubs are giving their players 1500 rent checks for them to go live where they want and feeding them 70 dollars of food a day….. then good for you…. It’s not even close to that but can’t argue with a guy that thought Jake Mangum was right handed at one point….
