Maybe David Murray can now say that Jamont won't be eligible due to academics.

He is in fact the best player on the team. And he will be the only senior that will play alot of minutes for us as well.

If you click on the Jamont Gordon link in that paragraph, there's a very good analysis of him that was written at the end of February.

And yes, all MSU fans should hope he comes back next season. He's the difference between a Sweet 16 team and an NIT team next year.

I hope he comes back as well...

I'm just a little confused as to why he would make this decision. He obviously has something to prove to improve his draft status, but I just don't think sitting out does anything but hurt him. Or is his status sufficient enough to be a late first rounder and he doesn't want to do anything that could hurt it.

I just believe he has a lot to prove regarding a lot of things... especially his shooting

just kidding, but I think Murray has called Dateline to try and do an indepth feature on the no. of classes Jamont missed and whether that violates school policy.

You know, b/c the class attendance policy in the handbook is always strictly adhered to.

A Sweet 16 for a team with 2 All-SEC players back and a top 10 recruiting class coming in isn't exactly an unheard of proposition. But the point is we'll be a hell of a lot better team with Jamont next year than without him.

may think he could hurt his chances by participating. Most college basketball players, maybe all of them, think they are the best player to ever lace up their sneakers! I can see him thinking he "knows" he is going in the second round and attending this wont help his status.

What does he have to lose? And what good does it do to go in the 2nd round? I would rather be a free agent.

...but I find it hard to believe that we have a realistic chance of doing that with one (Jamont) offensive threat on the floor. We have no post offense. I love Jarvis, but unless he drastically improves offensively, we don't have any post scoring. And no matter how great we hear the freshmens are, they are young and unproven. Still, if the division is as weak as it was this year and you avoid the ridiculous nonconference start, I guess I could see it. I just think we are an NIT team at best without Jamont and it will be a struggle to make the dance with him, because he is our one offensive threat, and teams will double and triple team him. I guess Randy could bounce back and become a viable option again. Honestly, if Jamont comes back, I see us playing better at the beginning of the year, but going 8-8, 9-7 in conference and getting a 7-10 seed again. And it's very tough to be a sweet 16 team once you fall below the 6.

Are you confusing Jarvis with Dampier? I think jarvis could easily give us 10 points a game, and he's good enough offensively to give us an occasional 20. Don't know about you but I was very impressed with what he showed offensively last season. The problem was that Chuck was throwing up 30 a game down the stretch and it drastically cut into JV's touches. The center position looks MUCH better now than it did going into last season.

much more athletic players that will be at this camp. The possiblility of some of his "flaws" being exposed may out weigh the positives of going to the predraft camp. I have no idea if it is good or bad for him. I do however feel like he will never play at State again.

From Veazey's blog:

So I call Jerry Meyer, a Nashville-based recruiting analyst for Rivals.com who serves as Gordon's trainer. His explanation: "He's been down in Houston working out with coach John Lucas, been doing extremely well, playing well against some guys projected ahead of him," Meyer said. "The feeling was, really, going to Orlando could only hurt him and we feel confident he's a first-round pick."

Guess what Jamont. There's at least 40 other guys who feel confident they're a first-round pick too. One thing DowntownDawg and I agree on is that you're a dumbass for skipping the camp.

...that a Rivals.com recruiting analyst wouldn't be my choice for a trainer. He should've just gotten Rosebowl.

the continuity that it would provide us in the long run. We would be at least an NCAA tourney team and give guys like Osby and Bost a year to mature and grow into being good college players. And when Jamont graduated, they would be ready to step up and lead this team. Falling back into the NIT is not good for continuity.

That being said, I believe Jamont is as good as gone. I would be shocked if he came back.

and his advisors may be found in Veazey's blog linked below. Jamont and his advisors believe he is a virtual lock for the first round and attendng the Orlando camp can only hurt him. According to their statements he has been outplaying players projected ahead of him in recent workouts and at least ten NBA teams have called him to set up individual workouts. The chances of his remaining in the draft are about 100%.

it wouldnt be Jamont's either. in fact, it isnt his choice. Lucas is his trainer...the same dude who worked with Roberts a few years ago, worked with Rhodes last season, and im pretty sure worked with Jamont last season too.

By the same token no team coached by John Cohen should ever have expectations of a Super Regional. You see how that works?

Having expectations and fullfilling expectations are two totally separate things and should never be confused. For instance, prior to the Colts winning the SB year before last they had fallen short in the playoffs for years, yet they still had Super Bowl expectations. You might have said no team coached by Tony Dungy should have expectations of going to or winning a Super Bowl at that point in time but you would have been wrong.

I think it's sad how you take every opportunity to take a swipe at Rick Stansbury but then act incredulous when called out for it. Then you take it one step further by totally contradicted yourself as it pertains to baseball.

Hey! Who do you think you are trying to throw facts in Coach34's face like that? He comes up with those lame double-standard contradictions on his own and he doesn't need people like you throwing facts in the way of his obviously flawed logic. Don't worry Coach, I got your back...
