I just don’t care enough to watch a video of some dude that’s never going to play at Kentucky.

That's the kind of guy you need. One thing he can do is get his own shot, Pope has not really had a guy that can do that since he has been at Kentucky.

I can’t believe every good player does not come to UK. We should have a roster of about 50 players so no other teams can be good.
On the one hand, this is why I think many folks dramatically overreact if we don't sign any particular player among a short list of guys here in the states who we are told are the very best, must have recruits. It's a HUGE world out there with LOTS of very talented players. And particularly in basketball, many times the only difference between a middle of the road team and an elite championship caliber team is just finding one or two exceptionally talented guys to add who are supported by the rest of your roster pieces filling their roles. Who knows if this particular guy will ever play college basketball... but the point still remains.
But with that being said, Pope does need to go out and successfully find and add those necessary additions, wherever they may be. He'll either get it done and everyone will be celebrating, or he won't and it could well mean his UK coaching tenure ends after this next season.

yeah, hype videos are mostly just that... hype. However, there are some things that translate no matter the setting... his quickness & ball handling are impressive, and both the quickness and high release of his shot translate well to getting off his shot regardless of competition. Also, hype video or not, you can see every defender on their heels worried about his driving ability, and even then, he puts some guys on skates (or on the floor).
It would be nice, let me know if he ever decides to A.) play college ball and B.) decides between us and another school.

Keegan Brown -- that guy is completely useless. He has experience as a video coordinator. His philosophy seems to be cherrypicking statistics to make arguments fro why you don't need elite talent. As bad as Pope is, this "GM" is going to sink the ship faster.
I feel like I’m in the Billy G days when I was young. Nobody expected recruits to come here, it was obvious we weren’t ever going to win anything. It all feels the same but I’m not 15 anymore. Some of these people are full blown old men on this board taking up for Pope.
If he does play college basketball, he’s a day one All American. I doubt we get him, but he’s one of best players in the world not in the NBA! If some possible way we could get him, it would change a lot of talk around the country and sure help Popes case. Add a true power forward who loves to rebound and we could have a contender and a little something to believe in. All hope and wishes but he’s the real deal. Not that anyone who’s in charge is trying to talk about a championship, but add him and Graves and that’s a title four contender.
Are you sure he's that good? 14 ppg playing in Spain doesn't jump off the page. I see him cooking his "defenders" and I see things Jasper Johnson could do against that competition.
Dame Sarr was a (much?) better prospect and was 'OK' his first year at Duke. Not an AA.
IDK much about this guy, just saw the stats and the video that were posted. Nothing screams 'exceptional'.

Unfortunately Pope's history suggests the boosters would neuter him in public and urinate on what's left of his coaching career if he pulled a stunt like that.
Would be a ballsy move for sure, but ballsy backfires if you don't have balls to begin with.
The "punch the bully in the mouth" doesn't work for everyone. Sometimes you need to push the bully down an elevator shaft if you're not equipped for the direct confrontation.
TLDR -- I think Pope's got to pull a rabbit out his hat with what he has -- gonna be a tall order now that his rep has been ruined.
He is going to be fired at seasons end unless he has a heck of a season and I don't see a path to that if Moreno doesn't play. So why not go for it? I think he could actually attack their pride, say that the kid wanted to come here but apparently Kentucky wants to remain a Blue Blood but do so with a second or third tier budget. That would hit the egomaniac where it hurts, and it would make him look better in future job opportunities. He could say that JMI was a hindrance and when we did have a top player want to come, we couldn't afford them. And he would have a valid point

Same for me, he has been around a while and was once thought to be a lottery pick in 2022. Then he has been in Europe playing since then and seems to be the best player for most every team he plays for. I’d love to have him here but I think that’s highly doubtful to happen.
