No more hearing it is the bottom of the 6th when it is actually the top of the 8th.
That was part of the allure for me. Kind of like Jack destroying peoples names.
First started listening to Jim in 1979.
I am 58 years old & don't remember associating a voice other than Jim Ellis with MSU Baseball. It was time but dammit I hate the reminders of my age.

Did he steal some TRH rolls from you one time? I get he was declining but it’s not like he was Beth Mowins for the last 100 years. He is a legendary SEC baseball announcer that reminds me of Spring in Starkville. It’s amazing we can get anyone to come here with the way we treat our legends.

Sure it is time for him to retire but being happy about someone who has left indelible memories of MSU baseball retiring is crazy.
This one hurts. It's been fun with my oldest son watching State baseball the last couple of seasons(I know they haven't been great years), he's old enough to care a little. Introducing him to Jim while driving in the truck was a lot fun. I'm grateful to have the memories of listening to Jim with him and my Dad.
Glad I got to experience his call all those years. Class act.

Jim is one of the best baseball announcers out there. Hate to see him go. Hopefully we find a good one to replace him, although it won't be the same for many of us. I watch the games on tv now anyway.

Fitting that he got inducted in the SIXT inductee class (instead of the sixth).........wonder if they planned that?
Interested in finding out who the successor will be. Neil, that would be a good logical step but not sure he could continue to run the campus radio station and be gone as much as baseball requires. Jay Powell, I hope not, I fell like I'm listening to Jeff Foxworthy when he talks plus he's coaching HS baseball too or at least was. Anthony Craven, hope not. Bart, logical choice if he wants to give up TV. Jay Perry, please Lord no. Polk, I kid but no I can't stand the heavy breathing he does. Jason Crowder, he's not bad doing basketball. Do you hire someone from outside to only do baseball? Not likely

I don't understand why people see this as something to celebrate. He is the only broadcaster for baseball I have ever known, and I am in my 40's. With fans like this, who needs a rival?

When I was a kid I sat outside in a lawn chair listening to Jim call the games and pretended like I was in the stands. Thank you sir for all the great memories.

Thought I heard Neil say one time it was his favorite sport to call. Hope he's the replacement. As good of a PXP guy as there is. Love listening to him call a game. Bart's a good second choice. Gotta say I have a little trouble listening to a lot of Jason.

He does a great job with football. When he first moved here I remember listening to some of his baseball calls at Kentucky and thinking he did a great job with that. To me it’s a no brainer.
He might not be able to do basketball and baseball. He may not want to and chooses to stick with basketball. I don’t know. But I do know he needs to be given the option over any of the alternatives mentioned in this thread, except maybe Bart Gregory. I think Bart would be great also.
We should change our mascot to the Mississippi State Cannibles because we certainly eat our own.

I hope that’s the case. I get that Jim was slipping but I loved his quirks. It made listening to his amazing voice even better. I loved his banter with his various co-hosts and guests.
What a terrible take…. Definitely past his prime but still a good baseball announcer. I’ll miss him. I have great memories of sitting around with my dad listening to Jim.
