OdShowtime in your opinion, what is the greatest Beatles Album?

That's hard man. I'm a total snob.

My UK mono Sgt Pepper has literally brought a tear to my eye before.

Revolver UK, mono or stereo always great but black and white. Rubber Soul UK mono (US is a weird folk-rock album)

White Album is a masterpiece but too fragmented, like when the Beasties would all do their own songs instead of rapping together. I prefer stereo.

...

The UK 1st pressing of Abbey Road. If that's all I could have I'd take that. It's mindblowingly amazingly good. And it rocks so hard when it wants to. Here Comes the Sun is a pastoral-psychedelic masterpiece. I really could use that record right now but it's still a refuge at my parents' house.

Poor form on your part.

If you post song lyrics, you should include a hyperlink to the song.

Maxwell Edison, majoring in medicine
Calls her on the phone
"Can I take you out to the pictures, Joa-o-o-oan?"
But as she's getting ready to go
A knock comes on the door
Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Came down upon her head
Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Made sure that she was dead
Back in school again, Maxwell plays the fool again
Teacher gets annoyed
Wishing to avoid an unpleasant scene
She tells Max to stay when the class has gone away
So he waits behind
Writing fifty times "I must not be so"
But when she turns her back on the boy
He creeps up from behind
Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Came down upon her head
Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Made sure that she was dead
P. C. Thirty-One
Said "We caught a dirty one"
Maxwell stands alone
Painting testimonial pictures
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Rose and Valerie, screaming from the gallery
Say he must go free (Maxwell must go free)
The judge does not agree, and he tells them so
But as the words are leaving his lips
A noise comes from behind
Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Came down upon his head
Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer
Made sure that he was dead
Wo-wo-wo-woh
Silver hammer man

I can never decide between Rubber Soul/Revolver.
I love the White Album and it would have been spectacular as a Single Album.

I'll never be able to determine. I switch my opinion like socks on this. But, I can say that the first album, not song, from the Beatles that made me explore their entire catalog. Sgt Pepper's.

I can't believe I even gave an answer. Speaks to my mindset this week I guess. Happy to converse with nice folks.

It's usually not my nature to be able to rank a list of masterpieces. Like if you asked me my favorite Zeppelin album I wouldn't be able to answer you. I guess Abbey Road is just that good.

The White Album is great as is, but pared down it could have been their best.

Similar to Physical Graffiti; it's great, but a single album of just their new stuff would have been their hardest and best album. Problem was there was just a little bit too much of that for one disc.

Dilution is a thing with albums.

He struggles separating early Beatles from late Beatles. Almost 2 different bands.

And I have no answer for the Billy Joel/ boy band comparison. That just makes no sense.

+100 but even early Beatles (Cavern Days) I would not consider a "boy band".
And yea I didn't even get the Billy Joel comparison but is TheRick speak and sometimes my Rosetta stone is on the blink. 🤷‍♂️

I'm certain I'm not the most accomplished musician on this forum, but I guarantee I've played more notes, strummed more chords and sung more words than you ever will.

Do tell what makes a song laden with angst, anger or depression somehow "better"?

You have simply fallen into the "the only good music is the music I like" trap.

Don’t be silly, I like tons of genres, seen TONS of live music, and have since 12 yo disliked top 40 pop teeny bopper music. NOW, I’d like you to tell me without the Beatles theres no stones, doors or zeppelin lol
also, not impressed you play in bars for $500 UNLESS you quit college and went for it. If you kept your 9-5, you’re a sell out. If you ate Taco Bell 9 straight days and your band van broke down in the middle of nowhere with $14 dollars between you call me
