John Prine…..what a loss. When he died a lot of artists posted covers. War and Treaty did “Speed of the sound of loneliness”, it was really good. Many did “Angel from Montgomery” and a
lot of his hits. John Prine was my favorite singer/songwriter. I’ve seen him many times. He always shared his stage with artists trying to make it. He was really an unrecognized song writing genius. I miss his wit and wisdom.

He was the best! Sunday nights at Zeno's was one of my favorite nights out.
Tragic that he lost his voice.
I always did every Friday happy hour at the Cafe, and then most Tuesday nights at The Brewery. I’ve got one of his CDs that I’ll pop in every now and then when I’m getting nostalgic. Loved It’s a Sin.

Loved loved loved John Prine. I grew up on his music -- that welcome blend of non-obnoxious country with folk and rock and humor is among the best music of our era. Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson called him the best lyricist in the industry, and just think about who those guys are. I never missed a John Prine concert when he was close to my whereabouts.

of course Sluggo has changed this cover to update it so to speak....

When I was a Child my family would travel,
down to West Virginia where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.

And daddy won't you take me back to Raleigh County
Down by the Coal River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Blankesnhip's coal train has hauled it away....
29 Miners died there that day.....

for those that remember Upper Big Branch mine disaster which was in Raleigh Co WV.

When John Prine passed I thought of his lyrics from When I Die and Get to Heaven

Cause then I'm gonna get a cocktail
Vodka and ginger ale
Yeah I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's nine miles long
I'm gonna kiss that pretty girl on the tilt-a-whirl
Yeah this old man is goin' to town
