From Uva, sounds like he’s considering coming back next year. Man, that would be HUGE. Biggest recruit on the board for Beamer in 24.

Maybe Rattler will come back as well??? The 2024 draft class is pretty deep at QB. Maybe he comes back to up his stock for the 2025 draft which isn't nearly as deep at QB.

Hey, we can dream.

I'd be a little worried what Rattler coming back would do to our QB room longer-term.... (read transfers, decommitments)

Yeah, that's the downside. I'm sure with the beating he's taken this year, he's happy with being a late first round or 2nd round pick. And, frankly, maybe he ends up in a better situation long-term instead of going to a garbage team early in the draft.

I think we'll have some anyway. I can't see Sellers transferring. He knows he's next anyway. And he hasn't really done anything to warrant big attention in the portal. Wonder if this could potentially be the reason he's not getting a few snaps a game? Beamer trying to keep the RS intact bc there's a chance Ratt comes back depending on the grade? A guy can dream. Doesn't impact Reno. If fact, it helps him bc he gets to compete with Sellers while both are fighting for #2 instead of trying to unseat him as a starter.

I’m sure it will depend on draft slot. Truthfully, not sure how much more can do to improve status beyond having back-to-back consistent years.

I think some of it could have to do with this years QB draft class. It's pretty deep. If he came back next year with a hopefully health Juice and an improved OL and QB class that isn't as deep, it could pay off for him. Or he could just cash out this year.

I doubt he would return and I've heard no rumors or suggestions of such a thing. Just looking ahead to next year's schedule and we could really use him.

Plus, can you imagine the story lines surrounding Rattler returning to OU to play? Sheesh. Of course, he might want to avoid that circus.

I thought Rattler was out of eligibility.

He's got the covid year, if I'm not mistaken.

I seriously doubt it would happen, but with NIL money and a light QB class next year and the possibility of having Juice back and an improved OL and putting up bigger numbers...maybe?

I have been on this site for weeks now saying we should have a good shot at Juice returning. He came back to up his draft stock he was unable to do that so why leave if you may be drafted at the same position or lower. It only makes sense to return. People called me crazy, but it was obvious they really don't understand how the NFL contracts and draft position as far as longevity and also the opportunity to start or play right away work. A guy drafted in the first two rounds will always get more opportunity than the guys drafted late. A team's investment in a player usually matters more than skill sadly but there are a few who are so good they cannot be denied guys like Amon Ra St. Brown.

Let the controversy begin my friend.

In the age of NIL , there are arguments to be made.

If he can play as well next year as this year with a healthy Juice and an improved OL, he could put up some big numbers.

Not to mention a more improved Nyck Harbor and everyone else around them having another year. I mean Josh Simon would probably eat too.

Tantalizing to think about. He is 23, though, and I imagine there's a part of him that would be happy as a late first round or second round pick after being considered mostly a bust up to midway through last season.

Obviously, some of it is selfish on my part b/c it makes us better with a brutal schedule next year. But, also, I feel terrible for him that he's playing so great but unable to put up any real numbers. I'd love him to come back next year and put up some big numbers as a Gamecock.

Yep. That's true. And IF Juice is considering returning, he's close with Ratt too. I think you do a lot of damage with a healthy OL with a significant talent infusion, with Mario, Ratt, Juice, and Harbor.

The deep draft class being deep could actually make him want to leave. He's much less likely to be drafted by a bad team, can come in be a backup and mentor behind the right guy and take over when he's ready or Injury demands it. He's not a number 1 prospect that teams are willing to invest top level draft capital and guaranteed contracts on, but a successful team who needs a #2 with a high ceiling should be willing to pursue him.

With that said, selfishly I'd love for him to come back and ball out.

Yeah, that's a tradeoff noted above. Go early in the draft to a garbage team or go later in the draft to a good team and get to develop.

I get it. I just feel his legacy deserves better than what the stat sheet will show.
One of you guys need to message me and let me know what you hear on the reason McCloud is no longer with the team.... this is crazy.

Broadly just that behavior problems from high school followed him to college.
