I'd hold off on that. Can I get my CROW ... ala Mode???

Another bye week before a big game concerns meThe OU win will REALLY mean something if we win the next game.
To differentiate himself from his long line of predecessors, Beamer has to build off big wins. We have always picked up scattered big wins here and there. What we have not traditionally done is build off those moments. Spurrier did, albeit briefly.
Is this really a BIG win? I think this is more of a win over a big name that used to be a top program. OU is 4-3 this season with wins over Temple, Tulane, Houston and Auburn. We were actually favored in this game by kickoff. The OU win will REALLY mean something if we win the next game.

I guess with UK imploding like they are, the OU win is the signature win of the season so far.Contextually, yes. It's a big win for US. Kind of like beating ND in South Bend in 1984. The Gerry Faust Fighting Irish were a shell of their former selves, but for a program of our caliber to go in and win on a blue blood's turf still meant something...for us.
I think the meaning of the OU game will be determined by how the rest of the season goes. If we stumble to a 5-win season, the win won't mean diddly. It'll be as you stated, just a win over a middling and struggling program.
If, however, we somehow took off and got to 7 or 8 regular season wins then we could look back on the OU win as something of a turning point for the season.

Me too....dee Ole Miss gameAnother bye week before a big game concerns me
regardless of OK's condition right now, this is a huge win. you rarely beat OK at home. and in the furture, the record will always show a "W" at OK.We have the 3rd most seniors in the nation that just beat an Oklahoma Sooner team that's a skeleton of past Oklahoma teams. I said early last week they are not your Daddy's Oklahoma Sooners and, thus, expected to beat them. Not only would I wait until the end of this season before ordering my crow, I'd wait until next season after we have lost much of this year's team, including, probably, the best coach on staff, Clayton White. But, I know little and claim less.
It's also a great selling point to recruits. I do agree though, the Texas A&M game looms large.Me too....dee Ole Miss game

Don't misunderstand. I'm glad we won. Just keeping it in perspective.Me too....dee Ole Miss game

I think it comes down to perspective. Is this a "big" win from a national perspective that will have an impact on the playoff race (see our 2022 TN win)? Almost certainly not. As said above, this is not your daddy's Oklahoma. Is this a "big" win from the perspective of a decades-long-suffering Gamecock fan who has seen us lose plenty of games like this over the years and who worried that the disappointment of losing a close one to Alabama would follow us to Norman? Absolutely. Is this really a BIG win? I think this is more of a win over a big name that used to be a top program. OU is 4-3 this season with wins over Temple, Tulane, Houston and Auburn. I like intelligent discussion period. This is what I like about this board. It effectively crushes the delusions of the sunshine-pumpers. Some people take awhile to bring around, but given enough time and rehabilitation, the intelligent ones are converted.
Loggains with extra time is dangerous, to us.Another bye week before a big game concerns me
That's not your father's OU, but given the paucity of SEC road wins in our history, it's foolish and unrealistic not to hype the win.Just Askin' ..... just in case, I HAVE to!

If the sunshine pumpers ''grew up in a middle-class neighborhood'' that could be a tough sell. This is what I like about this board. It effectively crushes the delusions of the sunshine-pumpers. That would depend on their current level of contentedness. If the sunshine pumpers ''grew up in a middle-class neighborhood'' that could be a tough sell.
I see what you did thereIf the sunshine pumpers ''grew up in a middle-class neighborhood'' that could be a tough sell.
They also have more time to keep the lawns nice. That would depend on their current level of contentedness.
When I looked at our schedule it was hard to see a path to 6 or 7 wins without a couple of upsets and I wasn't considering UK to be one of those. We had two upsets in our grasp and blew them. So now any win, especially against an SEC foes, is a big win. Now I can see the possibility.I think it comes down to perspective. To 18s point, the full impact of this win will be known by how well we follow it up in 2 weeks.
I'm not sure anyone is worried about playing us if they have an offense that has a pulse. All of our wins and "elite" defensive performances have come against teams ranked 100th or lower on offense. This entire season looks completely different if we didn't get screwed out of the LSU win, and had even a resemblance of an OL or one less TO at Alabama for the win there. (Heck, if we'd have just taken an FG in first quarter, we win)
Maybe even just one or the other.
I just can't understand how people are blind to the improvement.
Yes, there are problems with the OL. QB needs to learn more, for sure... People have been in position to make plays and just didn't...
With one of those 2 wins - even with the kiffin loss - ppl would still be ready to run the entire program in the ground.
I got news for you... This AIN'T that bad. No one wants to play us right now. That's a good thing.
I disagree. I don't think anyone wants to play us. We are not consistent but if we play well, we can give any team a tough run.I'm not sure anyone is worried about playing us if they have an offense that has a pulse. We are about to find out if there is any improvement. Outside of Wofford, every team we play from here on out is ranked.
It's an inviting thought, but I can't think of anyone who doesn't want to play us. Don't delude yourself. Traditional SEC powers see us the way we see Vandy. Other programs were intimidated by Spurrier. That's as close as we got.I disagree. I don't think anyone wants to play us. We are not consistent but if we play well, we can give any team a tough run.
I didn't say they are intimidated, I said we can give them a run if we play well, and they know that. I bet LSU, Bama, aTm, mizzou, Clemson, and even UK had us marked as an easy win... Now, they're not saying that, and the first 2 on that list are counting their blessings. A decent DL and DEs can change an entire team over night. I'm not saying we are a great team, I'm just saying we are better.... And it's ok to admit that. It's an inviting thought, but I can't think of anyone who doesn't want to play us. so what are you doing here?I like intelligent discussion period.
you forget who you are talking to.. the most knowledgeable fans ever! just ask them... I just cant figure out how they aren't coaching somewhere, lolThis entire season looks completely different if we didn't get screwed out of the LSU win, and had even a resemblance of an OL or one less TO at Alabama for the win there. really? hell I don't wanna play vandy, ask Texas if they wanna try that againIt's an inviting thought, but I can't think of anyone who doesn't want to play us. Don't delude yourself. Entertainment.so what are you doing here?
You still think anyone would put us on their schedule right now??.... I bet Georgia is glad we don't get them this yearIt's an inviting thought, but I can't think of anyone who doesn't want to play us. Don't delude yourself. If they were our game 1 or 2 they would've had nothing to worry about. VERY glad we have improved since ODU.You still think anyone would put us on their schedule right now??.... I bet Georgia is glad we don't get them this year
