For USC's 2023 Homecoming weekend celebrations, DJ Gamecock has created an Amazing FREE 10-HOUR Playlist Collection on Spotify of Also Sprach Zarathustra, the classic theme song from the 1968 hit movie 2001: A Space Odyssey! This 155-track playlist was designed to blow the minds of Gamecock fans! It contains 50 different short versions of the song (written by famous classical orchestra conductor Richard Strauss in 1895) running 2 minutes or less. Each shorter song (as short as 56 seconds for a goofy polka version) is followed by a longer version, including some long jam versions by Phish lasting over 24 minutes. The short and longer versions alternate throughout.

Back in Fall 2001, the 200th Anniversary of the University of South Carolina being founded in 1801, DJ Gamecock did a Special 2001 Homecoming Weekend Radio show LIVE on WUSC.FM featuring 2 hours of ONLY "Also Sprach Zarathustra". Reaction from WUSC.FM listeners to that 2001 Homecoming radio show (with WUSC.FM Alumni being Guest DJs for the weekend) was Overwhelming! This 2023 playlist alternates between short and longer 2001 version tunes the same way.
Hear not only classical music versions of Also Sprach Zarathustra, but versions with jazz, rock, jazz-rock fusion, funk, disco, techno and everything in between. Hear 2001 played on pianos, guitars, drums, banjos, tubas, etc. If you've never tried listening to Spotify before, you really should give it a try! Based in the UK, Spotify has what is widely considered the easiest-to-use online music interface for both computer and phone users.

There are other versions of 2001 recorded by other university marching bands on Spotify. Why doesn't the University of South Carolina Band make its own digital versions of 2001 (& other songs) available worldwide over Spotify?
Some versions of Also Sprach Zarathustra that were played (on vinyl records) back in the 2001 Homecoming radio show are not yet available in digital form. (Ray Stevens' comedy song "Thus Cacked Henrietta" was not yet on Spotify.) If you know of ANY version of 2001 on Spotify you feel should be included (but it isn't yet), please tell DJ Gamecock about it! Is there one track (or a couple) included that you really dislike, please let him know that as well! Likewise, if you think any song included on this playlist is out of ideal order (or would sound better before/after some other version of the song), tell him! Putting versions with outer space sound effects together is one goal.
