…..on Easter Sunday. I mean come on guys, hasn’t this gone far enough? Baseball is at least Saturday only this weekend. Have we gone crazy? He was like, “3 straight 8 am matches, happy Easter everybody”.

I know not everyone is Christian. But can the Christians at least say no? Is it that necessary to play 8th grade volleyball?

@mstateglfr this is your territory. Let’s at least respect holidays, right?

The Big South was in Atlanta this weekend. In my daughters age group alone there was approximately 300 teams. There was 12-18s year olds. Crazy crazy big tournament and so much fun.

Our team parents had a lot of push back on the club when the schedule came out in November. Some parents stayed home to go to church with other family. But with all that said, those that did travel, acknowledged Easter as team this weekend.

I would agree travel sports get in the way of Church. However being a Christian is about worshiping The Lord our God every day.

Thanks for the info. I’m certainly not saying alternative methods can’t be attained. But at what cost, and is it necessary?

Looking at your pics - that’s where my buddy was. I didn’t ask him, but the building is the same. So I guess it is what it is? Will anyone ever push back?

No. Because if you don't go, somebody else will. Then your baby "gets behind".

seriously, We debated it for a while. I really thought we would cancel and pick up another tournament. But......

For the 16-18yo, there was every college there scouting you can think of. So.... it's up to your family if you want to be showcased. But yeah.... 80% won't play college ball.

No, it’s not necessary and the parents could have refused to have their children play.

The first thing Jesus said we he got out of that tomb was "You better not be playing any sports on the anniversary of this date ever again! Even if you go to church and see family and have the leftover time!"
I get it but we all know it’s not true. Let’s be real.

Is the profit and the development THAT important? Of course not.

That’s not really responsive is it? That’s not a tournament filled with people that either (a) are from the area that went to church and saw family today or (b) aren’t Christians.

And it’s not filled with people who made this one exception to miss church.

There are just a lot of Christian’s for whom going to church, even on Easter Sunday, takes a back seat to travel sports.

Most Christians have something they let interfere with going to church when they shouldn’t (and my family is certainly not immune). Travel sports just stands out because it’s so prominent and it’s so effective at communicating the message to kids that going to church isn’t important and it’s just something you fit in around your other, more important activities.

We went to that once and it fell on Easter, we were able to visit one of the downtown ATL churches for a service. Plus side, At least volleyball is only 5-8 weekends per year, so people can still be mostly active and involved in their home church.

How do you know any of those things?

There are 51 other Sundays in the year to worship the sky wizard. I’m sure he is fine with you skipping one even if it is the celebration of the most famous zombie.
Thanks for letting us know, we will add you to the list. IN HELL.**

Many of these travel sports parents will be shocked when their children don’t make church a priority in their life as a college student or adult. They’ll blame it on social media, culture, or Hollywood, but that’s cope of the highest order. Make your choices, no judgment here. But when you’re upset because your grand children don’t attend church, you won’t have to wonder why. You told them other things were more important. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

This maybe the answer
I was thinking about this, this weekend. Maybe a 1,000 teams converged on Atlanta this weekend.

Each team has about 10 players. Most kids have two parents there. A coach, so each team probably brings 30 people. So 30,000 people maybe. Which is about what State has a football game. Hahaha

Tournament fees
Travel expense
Lodging
Food. (Food in the convention center was ridiculous. $4 for water for example. I refilled a water bottle countless times )
Parking

About what I pay for a weekend in Starkville.

But my Facebook feed had far more people posting their family Easter pics than people posting travel ball pics.

Thinking more about this..... how many Vol and Boilermaker and Wolfpack and Duke fans and then the women's games..... how many fans were at those events today?

People watching athletes they don't know, athletes that don't give one damn about a fan..... play ball.

Think about your time in travel ball, then think how many Sundays you and your kids missed in church. maybe this explains the travel ball parents behavior ?

Why are atheists always so upset?
You should be thankful atheist like to chime in with their blasphemy. Remember Lucifer, there is only ONE Unpardonable Sin-- Blaspheming the Holy Spirit by denying Christ!

There was a young street preacher who was trying to witness to a LGBTUVWXYZ gathering and several human beings of multiple genders shouted F*** Jesus and F*** God and the Street preacher didn't do what he was instructed to do in Scripture. "Turn his back, kick the dust off his feet and leave them.

I would suggest decaf.

Yes, yes, yes, my grand plan revealed. I didn’t need drugs or porn to lure the righteous away. All I needed was travel volleyball and baseball. Sometimes the solutions are just right in front of you.

You are 100% correct b/c I made this mistake with my daughter with volleyball and soccer. She doesn’t attend church anymore and is agnostic and sadly there are many more local youth just like her b/c parents like me didn’t prioritize Christ. My son is 16 now and we play school sports but my family decided no travel ball as we will be attending church. One poster made a sarcastic comment about missing 1 day. If that was the case I’d be fine with it but it isn’t. Typically we would have non stop tournaments from mid February through May in the spring and with soccer mid August to November. The money I spent on travel ball I could have easily paid her way through college.

I pray everyday for my daughter to turn back to the Lord. I have faith she will see the light one day but it hurts being a Christian father and knowing I prioritized sports over her soul during the most impressionable time of her life

I think it's pretty absurd to schedule tournament matches today.
...a coworker was heading to Missouri Friday night because her oldest daughter and husband were already down there for a softball tournament(17 Age) thst started on Friday and would end today.

I heard that and thought it was nuts.
- she missed school for a club softball tournament in another state?
- the team entered a tournament that would play and end on Easter?

Play last week. Play next week. It's OK to take a weekend off.
At the same time, I understand if parents don't like it but still go to the tournament.
I blame the organizations who host the tournaments, and to a small degree the clubs that sign up.
For youth volleyball, USAV/JVA/AAU have the ability to schedule when these massive tournaments take place.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but your daughter is likely predisposed to be non-religious and would always have turned out that way, no matter how many times you took her to church or didn't. You either get something out of it, or you don't. Some people insist they feel God's presence when they pray, and some people feel very strongly that they don't, and whatever amount of hours they spent in church (high or low) isn't going to change that feeling for them.

There are way too many examples of people being raised in the church and then leaving it, or people not being raised in churches but joining them as adults, for it all to depend on where the parents took them and how often.
