I know small ball is Cohen's strategy with this team but had he stuck with that strategy none of us would have been able to view that inspirational walk-off HR today. Cohen was going to bunt in that situation, take the bat out of one our better power hitters, but 1B coach suggested giving Nick one strike. Nick knew he had one swing and took advantage of it. I know every one on this board is damn glad that he let Vickerson swing in that situation.
I know small ball is part of the game and with these sorry *** bats, has become a bigger part of the game, but the coaching staff has taken the bat out of our hitters hands a ton of times this year. Sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't but one thing is for certain, every time a bunt is laid down, there is no chance for an extra base hit. I'm not saying stop playing small ball all together, but be more of a balanced attack. Maybe he'll change his thinking some before next season and allow some more swinging after this game today.
