lol, there's nothing more subjective than the transitive property.
I wasn’t inferring transitive property. Sorry if it came off that way. I was stating it as a fact. I agree transitive property is subjective. Although I don’t think any more so than the eye test and in fact, I think less. Fact is Georgia lost to Alabama. Michigan won out and won the national championship. They are the best team in the country and it’s really not debatable. Georgia doesn’t even fall in to that conversation they lost when they shouldn’t have. You can’t do that and be the best.

To clarify, I didn't actually make the claim that UGA was the best team in college football. I just replied and said it would be hard to argue against it. I did not say they were unquestionably the best team or that there was no argument for Michigan.

As I stated in a separate thread where the same argument is going on, I'm not denying Michigan is the legitimate winner of the national title. They obviously are. I just happen to think UGA would have beaten them head-to-head, which as I also stated was my opinion and hypothetical.

In "The Old Days" .... This ALL would have been settled by 8 PM EST, January 1, 2024 in the "ROSE BOWL".... BUT. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! LOL!!!
True. But Bama/Michigan was the actual national championship game; we wouldn't have gotten that game. Too bad we never went with a +1 system before going crazy with the pLaYoFfS and destroying the bowls.

The bowls have long needed to die in my opinion. Way before the playoff as well. I know that’s a personal opinion but I have always thought them to be silly.

I appreciate you aren't some fanatic about it. But, personally, as a Gamecock fan, the bowls were the best situation for us. What are our chances of even making the playoff, much less winning a game? More likely that Clemson and Georgia will play in a conference championship game and then 2 or 3 additional games in the playoff. Fans think it can't get any worse for us, I'm afraid they are in for a rude awakening.

If we get rid of bowls, or get rid of a lot of lower bowls, we will miss out on those games a lot of years.

Think how awesome it was to play just recently in the Mayo bowl.

Bowls are a part of the fabric of college football. No person who is a fan of college football would advocate doing away with bowls. Might as well advocate for doing away with fight songs, mascots, marching bands and so on. It's all part of the fabric. Now, are there too many bowls? Obviously. But doing away with bowls altogether is an absurd notion that no college football fan would make.

That said, it'll probably happen at some point.

Playoffs were inevitable. It is incumbent on our coaches to make the playoffs. It will be hard to make them. But, that should be the goal every year.

In the old days, we probably would have a shared championship right now. FSU's players would have played and probably beat some random team from the Big 12 in the Orange Bowl. Michigan would have routed Washington in the Rose Bowl. FSU and Michigan would both claim National Championships and they never would play. That's what would have happened. ...and I am not a fan of the plus 1 either. Too many programs scheduled their way to championships during the bowl era trying to get to a Bowl Game undefeated. I want to see everyone have to go through a gauntlet and see who is standing at the end. Not only did you see joy in the faces of the Michigan players and coaches, but relief in surviving that Gauntlet of Ohio State, Alabama, and Washington. I left out the Big 10 Championship because I didn't see Iowa as a real contender. Teams need to play real games in the regular season like a Texas-Alabama game and not be worried about we have to be undefeated or a one loss team. I want to witness a champion having survived or overcame something even if we end up having a three loss champion. Not that contrived championships of the past for the sake of keeping the bowls and history alive. The bowls can survive as much as they can, but not at the expense of a real playoff system. That's just my opinion. Call me a non-traditionalist if you want.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but many fans feel the bowls are meaningless, now more than ever. You are just simply one that doesn’t share that feeling.

If we had the +1, we would have gotten Michigan and Washington in the Rose Bowl, Texas and Bama in the Sugar. We then could have gotten a Michigan and Bama championship, which turned out to be the real championship game this year. We should have done more to preserve the bowl games. Too late now. Sucks to be us.

I want to see more matchups than a +1. I want to see a Southern team have to go play a cold weather game in December as a penalty for not winning your conference championship. I want to see Vice Versa for a Big 10 team. I want the scheduling to be undefeated to stop. Just because you are undefeated doesn't mean you are the best. That means you beat the teams on your schedule. I want it to be very few contenders that you avoided on the way to a title. Then you have a champion where can say. Yea, they pretty much beat everyone. They are the champions. The only contenders that you can really say Michigan avoided were Texas and Alabama and they avoided them because both lost to a team they beat in the playoffs. I know it's heresy for the old school college football fan, but yes, I want NFL style playoffs tailored for college.

Thanks, for your input. Don't understand the "President'' comment at all.

My primary, maybe only concern, is -- is it good for Carolina?

What you describe absolutely is not.

And what was wrong with that?
We agree, just on different points. Some like chocolate, some like strawberry but, most claim they're watching their weight.

My point, with the Bowls, you had 3-4-5 Fan bases going home happy and enjoying VICTORY ( the Forum Cops just BITCHED about my use of Capitals and 'rambling on' too much. He gave me some good TIPS and I PROMISED TO DO BETTER), ANYWAY, now, y'all have THE ONE and the best argument available is '... What,, The Bowl games wudda had the same teams playing.... but look `at all the extra great football we got to not watch?
Rose Bowl = Michigan/Wahington
Orange Bowl = Jawja/Fla St
Sugar Bowl = Bama /prolly Oregon
Cotton Bowl = texis/Mizzou or ole Miss
OUTBACK BOWL = Ohio St and South Carolina .... lol

HE WAS RIGHT!!! I DO RAMBLE ON!!!

I agree 100%. Easy enough to fix. P5's schedule ONLY other P5's. Drop The Cupcakes!
