* Needs to be noted, Pickett was actually on that team with Marino. He waited his turn and worked hard and look at where he is now 40 years later

If Clifford played pitt's high school level schedule this year he would probably have 50 TD passes. Pickett and pitt this year are all about playing a pathetic schedule.

Yeah - kid had a good year and it’s a weak year for QB’s. He will probably go late first round from what I’ve seen.

Yes he is. And while Pitt's schedule is weaker than ours, I saw it ranked 44th which is ahead of teams like USC, Cincinnati and Arizona State.

You know what they say about statistics. Did Pitt play one team that was ranked at the time they played them? Pitt's success this year (and Pickett's to a lesser extent) is directly attributable to their weak schedule. But I think Pickett is a good QB who had a really good year.

Different era, but it is interesting to see the new Pitt members gradually expose themselves on this nascent site.

Marino went on to play in the NFL for 17 seasons with the Miami Dolphins and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005. I don't think Kenny "Pick 6" is going to do likewise.

You don't need to say that, the kid is good
Maybe Pickett is better than Tom Brady and will be in the Pro Bowl and will be the NFL's MVP next year. Maybe he will be drafted and cut during the pre-season because he is useless. There is no way to know because pitt didn't play any decent teams. How can anyone tell how good Pickett is if he never played against a decent pass rush or a decent secondary?

Over on the pitt board the pitters are orgasmic about the possibility of the Steelers taking Pickett and then Pickett will lead them back to the promised land. Why would anyone think Pickett is better than Mason Rudolph? Rudolph tossed 90 TD passes during his college career - 35 TDs as a senior with only 9 picks. His QB rating was 170.0 as a senior. Pickett's has thrown 40 TD passes and 7 picks with a passer rating of 166.7 during his senior season while playing against 12 cupcakes - not one team ranked in the top 25. In Rudolph's senior season Oklahoma State played 5 teams ranked in the top 25. There is nothing in Pickett's stats that say he is better than Rudolph.

He's already tied with Marino for National Championships and Super Bowl wins.

Likely not, but he is a very good college quarterback and is currently rated the top quarterback in the draft by Mel Kiper and Todd McShay.

Remember Pizzedhole Pete Gonzalez? How'd that work out for them?

Very true. It would be easy to make long list of pitt QBs who failed in the NFL. Dan "Sniff Sniff" Marino was the only one who was a successful pro QB. I will never be convinced that he was better than Blackledge. Mario was drafted late in the first round and fell into a great organization in Miami at the time. He had a great OL to protect him and superb wide receivers to catch his passes. Blackledge got drafted seventh overall by the putrid Chiefs and wasn't all that successful. He was usually running for his life and watching receivers drop his passes. Of course, he ended up hurt a lot and eventually left the NFL. If Blackledge would have gone to Miami he might be in the NFL HOF today.

Look at how small his hands are compared to Marino's.

I watched one Pitt game all year, pretty much from beginning to end - their loss against Miami. I like Pickett, but I can understand why his stats are so inflated - guys are running wide open all day long. Does anyone play serious defense in that conference? Their game against Wake Forest this week will probably be 50-45.

You say "different era", but as hinted at by the OP, Pickett has seemingly been at Pitt for a LOOOONG time. ;)

I predict he at least ties the number of super bowl wins as Danny

But who had more parking tickets? That's your real Pitt accomplishment when you play nobody.

Marino played on teams that were far superior to those of Picket. During Dan's 4 years there Pitt was 42-5. Certainly Marino was a large part of that but he had much better players around him. Future NFL Hall of Famers Rickey Jackson and Riss Grimm along with future Pro Bowlers like High Green and Mark May just to name a few.

So hugh green helped throw touchdown passes? Lol. Rpo allows for more teams than back when Marino was playing.

The point was Pitt was a much better team in those years with elite athletes on both sides of the ball.
Marino's offensive lines were superior to those of Picket. “There were games when my uniform never got dirty,” Marino once remarked. “There were games when I never hit the ground."
Marino was a Hall of Fame player but Picket deserves credit for what he has accomplished on some very average college teams.

I watched the Steelers-Lions game.. Rudolph is horrible
I also watched games in 2019 when he was benched for Duck Hodges.
I agree with you. Rudolph is not very good. However, there is no evidence that Pickett would be better. Rudolph had a better college career than Pickett. Based on that, Pickett would be even worse than Rudolph.

There was no evidence that Big Ben would be better then Maddox. Drafting QB is a crap shoot, but with Rudolph it's a chance I am willing to take.

Rudolph maybe one of the worst backups in the NFL. I watched him vs the Lions throw the ball 10 feet over Dionte Johnson's head who was wide open 8 feet in front of him.

I am not a Pitt fan, but watching Pickett make deep throws on the mark to Addison is a lot better then anything Rudolph has completed.

Rudolph threw some absolute dead on accurate passes in college.

For PSU/Yurcuch reference, notice how quick the ball comes out.

Kenny Pickett is by far a better prospect then Rudolph ever was.

the sudden Rudolph love on here. Lol. A banana would be a better back up QB.

I don't rate college QBs as NFL prospects. I'm merely comparing what one did in college vs the other.

Not a Steelers fan. Don't particularly care for either QB.

Ben Could run. That was a big difference. BEN is a hall of famer in the twilight of his career. TOmlin was given a gift when cowher retired early. Now he must find a qb that is as good as ben has been.
