“Mr Sankey, line one, it’s Kevin Warren.”
Sankey picks up his phone, “Hey bro, how it be?”
Warren rolls his eyes, “Just great Greg. You heard we just added SC, we call them that around here, and UCLA?”
“Sure did Kev. It was all over the internets.” Sankey says lighting a cigar with a Benjamin Franklin C note.
“Well Greg, we have been talking with the guys at Fox, ESPN, Apple, NBC and Amazon. They are rolling out numbers for tv rights that are crazy. Maybe $200 million per team per year.”
Sankey pulls a spread sheet up on his laptop. “Kevin I do believe you are hearing the same thing we are. With content needed to solidify these streaming networks they are willing to talk amazing numbers.”
Warren kicks back and closes his eyes, “ The money goes really crazy if you listen to them talking about playoffs. They think a billion or more, making them bigger than March madness could ever be. So what do we do about that Greg?”
Sankey drops the chummy tone, leans forward and says, “You want me to say we have to work together Kevin?”
Warren gets serious, “Yes Greg, I am. I cleared this conversation with tOSU and UM.”
“What about Penn State and the Cali schools?” Sankey says smiling.
“Bwahaha!” explodes Warren. “You really know how to make me laugh Greg. Anyhow, I’m thinking we take our top 16 teams every year, 8 from each of our conferences, and have them play a tournament and we play the championship at the Rose Bowl. Waddaya say?”
“I say how much Kevin?”
“The stars Greg. the stars.” Oh, one more thing. You know Notre Dame would look great in the B1G. And you know, we were talking around here and the B1G really does not have to add any teams below the Mason Dixon line. How’s that?”
“Kevin, we may have to continue this discussion. I’m hearing some interesting things that would prevent some issues between us.”
Warren smiles. “Let’s talk some more soon Greg.”
