listening to Phil today and the recurring discussions on the forum, we seem to have two keys for DL in 2022:
  • DE and edge play stopping the run and getting sacks which we were 8th in conference
  • Having PJ Musitpher back at full strength on 1-T DT, and having big body backups
re DE, we really have a lot of promising guys, even though we lost key players. looks like Isaac will be at full go by fall, DDS looks solid, Townley, Fisher, Tarburton, McGraw and Smith Vilbert all seem very capable. Beamon is also a guy capable of sliding over from 3-T DT to help bolster run if needed. combined with Manny's D approach, this is actually an area the could become a very positive surprise especially with QB pressure/sacks.

re DT we seem to be in good shape on 3-T DT, but not much behind PJ on 1-T. Phil's comment was Ellies and Izzard may have to get bigger to help, and the only true body type was Cole Brevard who has not played. He also speculated that PJ is dealing with an ACL and won't be able to condition for several months, and therefore will not likely be the PJ of 2021. if he is not conditioning, we would know that now as lifting is not exactly a secret. Phil probably knows what is going on there. So if PJ is a fraction of his 2021 self, then Phil says we have two roads to success - Ellies and Izzard grow bigger and stronger to play that role, or we get a home run in transfer portal for a 1T DT. No mention if we have an OL player to move over (i.e. like what we did with CJ Thorpe). it would be great if we get one or more of these to work out. if not, we will just take a bit of a hit particularly in the run D especially with the new LBs.

Do you see the DT situation playing a significant role in our 2022 season results?
