Nobody, and I mean nobody, makes charitable contributions for the tax writeoff. People make charitable contributions because they want to support a charitable cause. The tax deduction is a secondary benefit. You'll never save anywhere near as much in taxes as it costs you to make the contribution. And for the very rich, itemized deductions are limited so it's not unusual at all to see someone with a very high adjusted gross income not get any deduction at all for his charitable contributions.

Is there any doubt that Pete Boone is an unmitigated, worthless piece of ****? What the hell does that sentence have to do with whether scruggs should rightfully rot in a jail cell? That sentence was written with knowledge that it would be made public and that it would serve only to answer Boone's critics that he's given to sucking the genitalia of scruggsian-level donors. Ever the selfless one, that Pete.

Mr. Boone, I bow to your ability to make LT appear a magnanimous, gracious statesman.

is a 501(c)(3) public charity. One if its specific purposes (in the Articles of Inc.) is to supplement University provided compensation to MSU employees of the athletic dept.

no university president or chancellor would be sending letters on university letterhead pleading leniency on behalf of Dontae Walker, Jimmy Johns, you, or me. It's not about the war on drugs, it's about class. If you have the money and the connections you're in good shape, if not you're just out of luck.

Compared to what he gave academics, he gave very little to athletics.

Believe as you wish.

He also loaned (one) of his jets for community service....transporting sick patients, etc.

I guess you'll have a problem with that too.

Admit it, you're just pissed off because you don't have an alum with major bucks that actually gives as much as Scruggs.

Go ahead, just admit it.....it's ok.

You can't seriously believe what you just typed. My sarcasm meter has not been working well lately but were you seriously bragging about the wealth that Scruggs piled up by bribing, lying, and abusing the legal system?

<font face="Tahoma" size="2">David Howorth of Oxford, attorney:(must have been one of the many screwed by ole Dick, notice how many co-counsels have sued his ***?)

"I am writing to request that Mr. Richard Scruggs be given the severest possible sentence under the law."

Terrell Price of Tupelo:

"He did not think of the reputation of the University, Oxford, the judicial system of which he was a part or the people of Mississippi. He became twisted and lost all sense of morality for a $26 million judgment. I hope your judgment will render a punishment that will reflect well on the people's reputation, the same reputation Mr. Scruggs besmirched."</font>
