Not sure how much this got discussed last week, but I didn’t like some of the calls for Allar.

Drew came into the game in garbage time, and they’re calling QB runs? JFC, man, you trying to get this kid killed? Many of us have been calling for him to get more playing time, but I doubt this is what anyone had in mind. You’re pounding the Scarlett Knights into the dirt, and you’re sending your golden goose out there and telling him to personally crash it into the end zone?

Yes, when the program is on his shoulders next season, he’ll be asked to do things like that. But calling those kind of plays when there’s no need for it is god damn reckless. The last thing we want to see is a headline, “Allar Sustains Concussion To Give Nittany Lions 40-Point Lead”. 🙄

Good as PSU looked last week, those play calls were driving me nuts at the end of the game!

For as great as his arm is, I tend to lean towards he might have accuracy issues that will drive us wild once he becomes the starter.

One thing that seems to hurt him in relief is that he comes in throwing rockets after Clifford has been tossing a Frisbee. The WRs usually have to adjust for this. Noticeably, the true 2nd string guys seem used to it (Evans, Dinkins, Liam Clifford) as they probably rep more together.

I doubt he has accuracy issues. Allar was a great high school QB. One of the best in the country. He was not a kid with a rocket for an arm who made his name in the camps.

I'm only going by what he's shown. 59% doesn't scream highly accurate. Hopefully it's just circumstances and no more.

Yeah, I’m guessing if high school receivers can catch his throws, D-1 guys can too.

The criticism of Drew coming out of HS was that he had to work on accuracy. So I think that is a fair point.

I do. I feel sorry for Tate, being a punchline. Rob Bolden was worse.

I was at the Youngstown State game, Bolden‘s first college game. He looked like a stud. Get him on the Heisman stage. He got a headline on espn.com after that game. Boy, his trajectory changed quickly. 😬

It was @psuro who I remember being the first to come out and say that Bolden was in over his head. I had really high hopes for RB and it wasn’t easy to let go. Addendum: ‘Ro called it really early too, like the third or fourth game.

Umm. Did you not see why Levi’s and stevens left? Good thing is allar will not have a trace or Sean coming back next year so he may win the job.

They left because they weren’t good enough to win the starting job.
100%. I am so looking forward to not having to read about the raw deals Levis and Stevens got while they were here. Enough already.

Ha! I remember Judge Smails flipping out at me and accusing me of not knowing anything, and ranting on and on. Pretty sure a few other guys jumped on that bandwagon.

All I really did was pay attention to what Bolden was doing. I think anyone who looked at the games that year with an open mind could see the kid was not progressing.

Funny you should mention this - I was discussing the Bolden/McGloin issue recently. with someone, because I am of the opinion the media (and podcasters) use the message boards as a source of information. During this timeframe, I had gone to the trouble of charting the series between McGloin and Bolden, and surmised McGloin was a more efficient quarterback and better quarterback for the team based on the red zone efficiencies, the scoring drives and the number of plays required to score.
I was watching the Big Ten Network later that week, and damned if DiNardo did not look down at his notes and recite my post word for word.

Well, I hate to be “that guy”, but…..you would rather see your #2 QB out with a concussion going into the final game of the season than your #1A or #1B running back.

PSU can live without Allar for the MSU game. Not so sure they can live without Allen/Singleton.

No mortal is worthy of the fanboy worship that has showered Allar this year. I am fearful and at the same time feel sorry for him. Even as a very very good QB, he will never live up to the unrealistic expectations.
Penn State has never really done well with 5 star QBs…. Hackenberg, Morelli, even going back to Tony Sacca, who was the #5 overall recruit his year.

The thing that struck me is that I had never known you to go after a player so insistently. It just was not your style, still isn’t, so your take on RB filled me with dread. Very prescient.

They left due to lack of play calls for them to crash it into the end zone in garbage time? They left because their long-term health wasn’t being foolishly risked?

They left as I said becasue they had Sean and trace ahead of them. So the allar people should know that the reps he gets and the way he is used is the way Franklin has backups play.
