Looking back it is pretty obvious what happened. A strong competitive culture was developed under Cohen and then Cann. Stong enough to sustain us through the Cann turmoil and into Lems first few seasons. That fooled most of us into thinking we had gotten really lucky and struck gold with lemonis until the train finally ran out of steam in 22.

In retrospect it actually was too good to be true and we found out he actually was what we feared when first hired. A mild mannered, slightly awkward unknown from a big Ten baseball program that had no business being hired here. Yes we won an NC but we won it despite him not because of him. These last 4 seasons prove it Now we must do something about it.

I think we all owe TA, Rowdy, and the other upper class leaders more than we know for our natty. They were the culture. They were also talented but it was their grit and leadership that made that team. I guess the preceding coaches get credit for recruiting dirt bags, but those players made that team special.
Since lemon lost that player leadership, he can't seem to recruit or build that same toughness.

It’s incredible that those players held the team together & performed at such a high level with all the coaching turmoil we had in those years. That title was all about those players.

I noticed there are a lot less Lemonis supporters on the board than there has been the last few years. I wanted him gone two years ago. I wonder if the football team falls flat how many Lebby supporters will be left? I didn't want him to begin with, but I don't want him gone just the DC should have been sent out the door. However, if they only win 2 to 4 games his *** should be fired the day after the egg bowl.

I will give him credit for pushing a ton of the right buttons in 2019 and 2021. He could have screwed up a good thing in those years, and at the minimum he did not. And you can argue he made some key managerial decisions that changed the team for the better (moving Foscue to 2B, Hancock to 1B, etc.).

But he’s definitely not been that guy since 2022. I don’t know if he just rested on his laurels and thought the job would be easy post-championship and dropped the ball. But he’s not the guy anymore.

I 1000% believed in him 4-5 years ago and u think most of our fans would agree. But everyone runs out of leash eventually.

He is forever the first coach in our history to win it all. Several great coaches with loaded teams did not do what his teams did in ‘21 and that’s a strange thing to wrap your head around as we sit here today.

Those teams had leaders and the coaches knew it and found it. Accountability between teammates goes way further than when the coaches gets on your ***. We have no magnum, Allen, rowdy, or westburg. Hines is not a leader but he should be the guy. Yes his batting is coming around and defense has been solid. Someone has to step up just don't see there is one in the dugout. Lemonis' downfall is not finding guys with the "IT" factor but that's because he's a BETA not an ALPHA.

Lebby supporters will be gone by midseason. He isn't the answer, just like Lemonis isn't the answer. Hutzler sucks but he isn't the problem. He's just another Cheese or Geautreux or whoever the pitching coach Lebby kept too long was. Honestly, I'd rather have just kept Arnett, and he was terrible. But he did go 5-7, win an SEC game and beat a pretty good Arizona team.

When you hire a mid tier big ten baseball coach why would anyone really expect much from him ? Middle of the pack in the Big Ten is bottom of the pack in the SEC. If they were even middle.

Well then. State is right where State should be at the bottom of the pack with Croomonis in charge!

the use of the word “was” made me get my hope up that he has been fired. Damn shame he hasn’t been

I tend to give someone the benefit of a doubt longer than I should, but it is time for Lemonis to go.
I am willing to give Lebby a couple more years as long as we see noticeable improvement each year.
With the current state of college sports, MSU's lower tier NIL funding is going to hurt our ability to attract and retain much, if any, top tier talent in any of the top 3 men's and girls' sports.

Agree. This is why Lemonis isn’t Fool’s Gold.

Lemonis is a 1980s Mississippi Oil Field: There are enough dry holes that people are wondering if it’s a long term producer. If not, folks will look elsewhere.

I 1000% believed in him 4-5 years ago and u think most of our fans would agree. But everyone runs out of leash eventually.

He’s had a good run and coached State to a Natty. The short-term gain was memorable. We hope for something long term but that’s baseball.
