I had posted last Friday if he loses the series against South Carolina he has to be fired. He has won four straight. If he can keep winning he can save his job.

Here is how I see it: He possibly can and you might be right, but just how high is the winning bar set to save his job and how long can/will he keep it up is another question I have of him? I still don’t trust him to recruit and both do the kind of coaching some of the guys we could hire I feel like can do here. Let’s say he did save his job, I’m still not sure I can ever trust him or have much faith in him. Unless he shows me something spectacular basically. I do love winning but I just don’t see it with Lemonis. He’s no doubt reading the writing on the wall and feels the pressure that’s for sure

Here is where I am at. Regardless what others say here the M over S program is a historically proud program, period! I don’t like being beaten by noncon programs, I don’t like apparently not being prepared early in the season for years, don’t like not recruiting for needs of positions, don’t like not competing with the better teams of our conference. Let the season play out and then get these coaches away from our program.

I think he will save his job if we make the NCAAs.
You can debate whether he should be fired. Plenty of folks will be fighting mad if he’s retained. But I don’t think he will be fired if we make the tournament. If Selmon has an excuse not to pay buyout money, he’s not going to pay it.

If we make the tournament this team will have shown a heck of a lot of improvement after the worst SEC start we’ve ever had. A win today or tomorrow would give us a tiny bit of breathing room down the stretch.

If he makes the NCAAT. I don’t think Selmon fires him. If he doesn’t then he should be gone.

We have some talent on our roster. Enough to where I think if we got in, we could win a Regional as a 2 or 3 given the right matchup. But we also still need to win at least 9 of our last 17 just to make it in.

Seems to be going about how I was thinking coming in. We’ll be just good enough to justify keeping his job.

If Selmon is in charge of choosing his replacement and we make the postseason I'd rather keep him. I don't trust Selmon to make a better choice than Cohen did.

There are some good candidates out there that might be interested in the job. Doesn't mean Selmon would pick them over Oklahoma's assistant coach

It's a lot harder to make the MCWS now but it shouldn't be hard for State to make a regional regularly. Is that now the standard for a coach here, make a regional once in a while?

Could this year end up similar to the 2022 year did for Ole Miss? Not saying we win the natty, but we barely squeak into the tournament and make a run at least to a super or CWS? I feel you gotta keep him then.

I’ve said he deserves this year.

But if he doesn’t make a super I’m ok with firing him.

if we hosted a regional and didn’t make a super I’d be ok with keeping him but not likely we host.

I'm afraid the boos got him off is bucket for a while but once the pressure is off, it will be back to the same old thing. I hope he proves me wrong. Or at least keeps it going until Selmon isn't in charge of his replacement.

I'm not predicting anything, but I've had the feeling all season that this team has the potential to be very good. They weren't showing it much early other than competing with elite teams, but then losing basically every time.

We'll see, but these past 4 games have been encouraging.

I’ve always said I can overlook everything that happens in February & March. Nothing matters in baseball except how you play after basketball is officially finished. He’s got the easiest remaining schedule possible if he wants to save his job.

I don’t think there’s any doubt he saved his job if he makes the tournament. And he very well might. Still a long road to it though. Have to get 10 more SEC wins with 17 games remaining. Schedule gets much easier after this weekend though. But I still don’t see anything that makes me think he’s going to get us back to hosting & winning regionals, much less the CWS again. So the sooner he’s gone the better for me.

In 2018 we started conference play 4-8 and made it to the CWS semis. It really depends on if we can get hot at the right time

Not saying he needs to stay but the 1-8 conference start is deceiving without context. Razors edge from being somewhere around 4-5/5-4 against an incredibly difficult schedule. Didn’t happen and lost all of those games for sure but never felt this team was actually historically bad or really even all that bad.

Yep. We’ve both been saying this for a couple of years now. And it’s true. We’re in baseball purgatory.
He needs more than four straight... more than a couple of series. I don't have any set numbers; I need to feel differently about our baseball program than I did the last few years. I'm glad we won, yet we need more than a few wins. I will admit we have to start somewhere. You'll have to look over my doubts about our current coaches.

I’ve been pretty positive on the team this year, though got more pessimistic with LSU and Oklahoma losses because I don’t think either are that good. I was less upset about Texas because I did think they were pretty good, and that’s played out. I think if we can at least get into postseason, we have enough pieces to make some noise

Imagine winning a second NC at Mississippi State and Selmon not giving him a multi-year deal 😆

I think there would be State fans who would STILL want him gone.
So we’re talking ab a natty now? Common we probably won’t make the SECT

Do you regret campaigning for him to be retained after 2023? You were the most vocal Lemonis supporter
No. It’s not that I really wanted him back (I’ve told the story of how he treated me many times and I also never liked his crootin strategy) but I also realized we might shouldn’t fire our natty winning coach so soon.
