Girls are ranked 15th in the country at 31-10 (7-5 SEC). We sit in a tie for fifth place in the conference, a game and a half out of third. We have three series left:

vs. Missouri (20-22, 2-10)
at Oklahoma (35-3, 9-3)
at Kentucky (24-17, 6-9)
vs. Ole Miss (30-9, 6-6)

So 9 of our final 12 games are against teams we currently sit higher in the SEC than. That's a decent recipe for a push to host our first ever regional.

Sweeps are rare, and one of Missouri's SEC wins is over Oklahoma, but they are in a free fall and this is a decent chance at picking up three at home this weekend. We might have enough to avoid the sweep against Oklahoma (just as we have against Texas and Tennessee). Kentucky isn't very good and Ole Miss is having a nice season as well.

If we can finish our last 12 at 7-5, we should host a regional. Here's the way the regional host landscape looks right now, and its weird.

Near Locks to Host (RPI)

Texas A&M (1)
LSU (4)
Duke (6)
Texas (7)
Oklahoma (8)
Florida State (9)
Virginia Tech (10)
UCLA (13)

Looking Good

Florida (3)
Arizona (12)
Oregon (20)
Texas Tech (23)

Work to Do

Arkansas (5)
Tennessee (11)
Washington (25)

In Contention

South Carolina (2)
Mississippi State (16)
Liberty (31)
Stanford (14)
Ole Miss (22)

Right now, the softball bracketologists have us as the No 2 seed at Florida State.

I think 7-5 gets it done, especially if we steal one from OU (which I think we can do this year). We might need to avoid a bad loss in the SEC tournament too.

Playing at OU is going to be intimidating. Largest softball stadium in the NCAA.

Missouri is 2-10 in the SEC and No. 40 in the RPI, so a sweep will actually help us.

Auburn is 2-10 in the SEC and No. 19 in the RPI and receiving votes in the Top 25. We already have a sweep over them.

All 15 teams have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. RPI and ranking wise we are 8th right now. Would be nice to pick up a couple spots in the SEC pecking order for hosting chances as well. Last year we were 6th, 3 games above Alabama at 9th and Alabama hosted.

Other SEC series this weekend:

Georgia at Auburn - fairly neutral
Florida at Ole Miss - we are tied with UF in the SEC standings and a game above Ole Miss. 2-1 by either team is fine, just no sweep
South Carolina at Arkansas - both are a game back of us, and both are in the same position for hosting.
LSU at Texas A&M - both are a game ahead of us. We could shoot up to third if these two teams split
Tennessee at Texas - We are tied with Tennessee and lose the tiebreaker. Texas is first in the SEC. Let them win it.
Oklahoma at Alabama - kind of the same mentality here, Oklahoma can end any chance of Alabama being in the hunt.

It's going be an uphill battle to host. You're leaving out the bias in women's athletics to prop up crowds and certain teams. Alabama is still ranked and will absolutely slide into hosting if they win a few games, no matter what.

Looks like if we don't get 12 wins out of that, racketts, salmon, and a few others should be insta fired.

Curious if we host could we temporarily modify the dude to play? we would break all NCAA softball attendance records if so!

This certainly appears to be our best ever softball team. A notch above quite a few teams who were solid, but no threat to make the CWS. Not likely, but possible for this team.

No we wouldn't, hardly fill the small stadium that we have.
