Link: Some say rap music seismically shifted from this duo. You could call it the B.C. (B.C.E.) and A.D. (A.C.E.) of Rap (Hip-Hop)

LOL. Mama Said Knock You Out wasn't included because it's a great song ... it was a message. It's a good song ... a fun song, but that's about it. My argument is that the world doesn't begin and end with those groups, as some on here assume it does ... so, yes, it not only helped my argument ... it was my argument. There's a certain type of person who lives and breathes only those types of groups, and rushes to crap on other forms of music ... there are plenty of threads for them to celebrate their interests without dumping their insecurities into this one.

I celebrate both kinds and you're a hypocrite with crappy taste in music. Looks like it's all about sloganeering to you.

There's no call for ever crapping on Zep, the Stones, or the Beatles. You look like an ignorant child. I had you on ignore so I bet you have other stupid opinions as well.

What the serious freak is wrong with you? I didn't crap on them. Take a Xanax.

One of my favorite Rap lines of all-time comes from Paid In Full..

Thinkin of a master plan
Cause ain't nothin but sweat inside my hand
So I dig into my pocket, all my money is spent
So I dig deeper but still comin up with lint

Might be the best ever.

The song, separate the music and the lyrics. Masterpiece everywhere.

Shalom

Eric B and Rakim:

When my daughter was in college she used our Avalon. One day, when she was home, I took the Avalon on some errands. There was a CD in player. I turned on the radio only to find a home made rap CD, made by her boyfriend, now husband. I listened to it for a good 15 minutes. The vulgarity in the songs was alarming. I took the CD out and fired it out the window on Rte 145 in Whitehall. She never asked what happened to it. She knew better. Sorry if you disagree. I found it disgusting.

Because you can't, you won't, and you don't stop. Not everyone likes the same food, music, or clothes. Hell there is rock that is just as vulgar and sucks, but some people love it. Look Steely Dan has some great music, but it also some of the most perverted lyrics out there not to mention the name of the band which flies right over most peoples heads. Rap is no different, some is better than others and some is cringe worthy. Your car, her bad IMO for leaving it in there. My Dad would have done the same I imagine. Funny thing is I used to complain when he threw on the Carpenters constantly or the Glen Miller band.....now they are both on my playlist.

So you broke the law (littering) because you determined that what a grown woman was listening to was offensive.

Makes sense.

When "get off my lawn!" becomes "get out of my car!"

Perhaps you are thinking crude and harsh lyrics of gansta rap, but that is just one particular rap style.
Many rap artists choose to address life and problems in the inner city quite poignantly, particularly amongst the black community. Public Enemy, Common, Queen Latifah, Eminem, Nas, Rakim just a few examples.

Again, your idea of good music comes from a Western perspective. People from a different perspective may find other aspects of music more important. You can not like a music, but still give it respect.
All kinds...

It's threads like this one where really BWI shows it's age and lack of open-mindedness.

Thanks for sending me down a youtube rabbit hole.

I go Sugar Hill Gang

Then you have Run DMC and Beasties

Then you move to mid-80's to the late 90's which is probably the golden age and that is where Eric B and Rakim would fall along with the best ever

Love the Shock G and Humpty Hump pretend they aren't the same person.

2Pac’s verse on Same Song is crazy good. I was never big into Eric B and Rakim; preferred Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, and LL Cool J from that era. Then NWA hit and it changed everything - the rap map went from mostly NYC to include LA, Oakland (Too Short, MC Hammer), and Miami (2 Live Crew, Poison Clan).

Surprising lack of KRS-One in this thread for the old school stuff.

Probably because he seemed more ‘thoughtful’ to me I think. When I was 16, I wanted the slick beats and party jams. Like Kool Moe Dee and Slick Rick.

BDK and EPMD were the shiznit. I had all their albums (well, tapes). EPMD, BDK and MC Hammer all had their first major label albums come out in the same year - 1988. There was a lot of music coming out then. Too Short predates them all. LL Cool J shortly after.
