On some level, I have to trust that Shane knows more about fellow-coaches than we do. As fans, for the most part all we can do are spout off the names of the obvious guys, the ones who are currently succeeding as OCs (Riley, Briles, Longo, etc etc). It does not surprise me at all that Shane would go with someone with whom we are not nearly as familiar. That said, you have to wonder how Loggains even made it on his radar. There doesn't seem to be any connection between the two. I thought maybe Stepp, but Loggains didn't start at Arky until last season, so Stepp was gone. Just seems like a fairly obscure guy to zero in on (if that's indeed the case). considering he is not currently an OC and has never had success in that capacity and has no previous connection with Shane.

A resounding nope. MSU tried to hire a guy who was a life long NFL assistant and was neither an OC or DC at any point in his career. We all agree that Clemson has $$$, but they hired a DC that had zero on-the-field coaching experience and was simply a defensive analyst. Clemson's OC also didn't have much experience before assuming that role. That is just a couple off the top of my head.....sure I can find plenty more. And the only ones I heard that said Beamer's phone is ringing off the hook was posters on fan sites that because of their garnet-colored glasses couldn't conceive of anything less.
Uhhh...you know they said it because of Beamer's statement, right? People aren't just pulling it from nowhere.

“The amount of people who’ve reached out to me like sitting head coaches to NFL coaches to current coordinators has been pretty impressive.”

I can see a difference between those two statements....and I'm sure you can also. Five or six could be pretty impressive depending on their position and no mention that any were offering their services....it simply could be a recommendation for some else, like the one we evidently hired. Don't read too much into vague statements.

I’m betting Kentucky, Tennessee, UNC will all hire OC’s that we have all heard of. If we go from hearing Dan Mullen to this guy, how can anyone not be disappointed and discouraged . His interviewing skills don’t matter to fans. His track records does.

Mullen was a pipe dream that was situated as much in reality as Gruden to UT. Gullibilty is the only rationale for biting on that one. Considering the wide abyss between the NFL and CF, I won't be discourage or disappointed until he proves he can't do the job. Remember Weis and his schematic advantage would have been considered a "home run" hire until he proved what worked for him in the NFL didn't work on the college level.

I agree and can see a difference. I'm just saying that you are exaggerating just as much as the people claiming phones ringing off the hook by claiming that there is no basis except random fans. That is simply not how it was and you know it.

Actually I didn't know it....all I've seen or read regarding that have been fans postings on 1 of 3 Gamecock sites with no links to another source. But I do stand corrected in my statement.

This is the third thread I have seen all naming different OCs as being the one. Hey people….Elvis has left the building.

I think I will wait on actual factual word on a hiring before I get excited or worried. UT fans knew for a fact Gruden was going to be their coach cause he had as the rumor went “just purchased land in Maryville” so no doubt it was him. See how that worked out.
I think I’ll wait and see how the hire works out on the field til I start acting like a chicken with it’s head cut off. Coach Beamer has a lot more at stake in this hire than I do. Actually, more than any of you.

If we are going to hire TE coach, I would rather hire Erik Kimrey.
Erik just won a high school state championship (again). I know you were joking but I just wanted to give a shout out to Coach Kimrey.

Well of course, it doesn't mean staffing decisions aren't subject to discussion.

I keep seeing things online like "he was just put in not-so-great situations in the NFL." Well, if that's understood to be the case, why didn't anyone in the NFL ever think enough of him to put him in a good situation?
If we are building a "Center for people who can't coach good," he is a perfect choice to replace Satterfield.

I’m really not joking. Maybe he’s not ready to be OC in the SEC but I bet he would do just fine. He was on 107.5 today, is very impressive. Comes from a very successful HS coaching line with his father. Scored points at Hammond like crazy. I bet he will move up one day - again - stick and be successful. Just hope it’s here for a another chance.
