Looking for the best logistical recommendations for next week regarding a trip to Madison. I would like to get a hotel 5-10 miles away from the stadium. Anybody have any thoughts as to the best area (N,S,E, or W) that would be easiest for getting to/from the hotel to stadium taking into account parking, transportation, and ease of getting out of stadium area and back to the hotel after the game? I have no problem walking a couple of miles each direction, but wouldn't want to walk 5 miles after the game. Any areas to avoid? Thanks.

From past experience, be careful walking to the stadium - it's not too far from their version of Frat Row. The drunk kids get rowdy and have been known to throw beer bottles at pregnant women wearing PSU gear (who happened to be an Associate Prof at Wisconsin at the time).

Years ago, we stayed at the Marriott (Madison) west of everything stadium/fan problems. Across from the stadium is 'beer garden heaven' for all Wisky fans, and with a night game, look out for many having one too many. No tail-gaiting to speak of, the jump around was so-so, but the 5th quarter - the Wisky band performance on the field after the game was very good, suggest stay and watch.

No problem getting to or from to the hotel, and the next morning went to Madison airport for flight, again no problem. Terrible seating for visiting fans years ago - hope you have good seats, and another W.

We had a ton of fun when we went to Madison a few years ago. I highly recommend staying in the downtown area so you can check out the city while you are there. We stayed at the Hotel Ruby Marie which was about a 2 mile walk to the stadium and 6 blocks or so from the capital building. Easy parking and a German beer hall and other bars/restaurants right there. I believe at one of the next door establishments we got a deal on breakfast and then a shuttle over to the stadium area and walked around from there. Tried to catch an Uber after the game but was almost impossible and just ended up walking the 2 miles back. Definitely saw some drunk college students but overall only had friendly interactions with their fans. Best away game I've been to by a good margin when you factor in having the city right there to explore, enjoy your trip!
