Wife and I are coming back for a nice weekend. The last time we were in SC was BW game where Austin Scott was RB., so a while. we stayed at Toftrees

There are so many more choices to stay, but room prices are much higher than we expected - compared to other places in the region. we want to come so will pay, but it was a bit of a price shock. not like it is a football weekend.

Is it graduation weekend or arts fest weekend? There is most likely something else going on in the area that weekend that is driving up the prices.

Not sure where you are thinking about staying, but the rooms at Toftrees are really dated and the entire resort is getting torn down and rebuilt after 2023 so they may start cutting back on services as that date gets closer. Having said that, The Field is a very good restaurant, there is a nice pool there, and you can take nice nature walks. If none of that matters to you and your wife, the new Scholar downtown is really, really nice. I stayed there for a game this year and was thoroughly impressed.

Yes, desire is to construct a first-class resort and conference facility, replete with a spa, restaurants, new pro shop/clubhouse and outdoor activities. See article:

In the Summer of ‘69 (would be a good name for a song!), I took 3 courses at Penn State. Played a lot of golf on White course. Blue was being built.

I played Toftrees when all they had was a trailer and nine holes open. No condos or hotel. I don‘t remember much about the course other than it was pretty rugged terrain. We were told to be careful looking for balls because of rattle snakes! At that time, it seemed like a long drive to get there.

I attended a fraternity reunion at Toftrees two summers ago and it was very dated. I would not stay there. The food was above average. Good to hear they are going to redo it.

$7.3 million in annual wages for 137 permanent jobs....so an average of $53,284.71 per FTE. According to Data USA, State College's median income is $38,076, and median income for Centre County was $61,921. So....not too bad of a gig to get at the new Toftrees.

Edit- I don't know how they include/exclude the college population in State College, so these numbers may be skewed. But still....making $53K working at toftrees is not too shabby. Assume most of those working there live "over the mountain" where it's a lower cost of living...

They are adding 137 jobs and pushing their total payroll to $7.3m.
