Looks like this is what we will have to settle for

but it's a start in the right direction for the program.

South Carolina is the best non-playoff team in college football

The No. 21 Gamecocks have won four straight games, including two against ranked opponents. At 7-3, they won't qualify for the SEC title game, let alone the College Football Playoff, but based on how they're playing, they're on track to be one of the first two teams outside the 12-team field.

Saturday's 34-30 win over No. 23 Missouri was primed to be a close loss with just over a minute remaining, but a clutch drive proved South Carolina could've been one of the nation's best programs had one or two plays gone their way at the start of the year.

“The No. 21 Gamecocks have won four straight games, including two against ranked opponents.”

Article should be corrected to say “. . . including THREE against ranked opponents.”

Your assessment is realistic. I’ll be further enthused if we beat Clemson but surely the national attention is good for the program.

After watching their O line walk over our d line it is clear that this is an area of great need. Stewart even now probably knows he needs to put on about 20 lbs of weight to be able to stand up on pitch sweeps and interrupt the play. we got schooled. i told my buddy, who is a Mizzou fan that they do not need to throw a pass. we couldnt stop them in the second half on simple hand offs. We still need 285lb De's on suspected running plays. #5 and #6- though incredibly fast offer no resistance to the run. All of this is not to criticize but to point out the holes in the team. WE need DT depth. Next year freaks me out. we lose a lot.

Mizzu obviously schemed well for our defense, which I expected, and hopefully White is working on the answer if Clemtech should try to replicate it. However, I do not think the Tiggers have the personnel to be successful.

Is Klubnik considered a dual-threat (i.e. running) QB?

The counter to the weight issue is to force teams into being one dimensional by scoring on them quickly. Any team down by 14 going into the half will go one dimensional after they fail to convert.

We do have a glaring DT depth problem for next year. Beamer needs to hit the portal extra hard.

DE was not the issue. It seemed most of the time both were doubled. Not a ton of help inside last night by DTs or LBs.

It’s OK. We just didn’t deserve it. If we ever do get into the playoffs, I want it to be because we played our way in. Not because other teams played themselves out.

Yep. "You are what your record says you are."

This is one of the problems of the expanded playoffs. For over 100 years of Gamecock football (or at least since the bowl era), this fanbase would consider 9 regular-season wins and a chance to earn a 10th win in a quality bowl something to look forward to. We're two weeks away from a very winnable game against Clemson and we're already talking about the disappointment of being out of playoff contention.
