In 2022, I recall us being a slight favorite heading to LSU after a 2-0 start and them taking a tough loss to FSU.

This year, the situation is similar (although we haven't looked as good maybe) and LSU is coming to Starkville.

Is Arnett vs Leach the major reason there's basically a 2 TD change in sentiment about this game year to year with State being a 9 to 10 points dog at home?

We’re going to get out-coached on occasion when we have a first year coach (like we did last week). The difference in conference is that frequently we’re going to be out-talented too. Tough hill to climb. Would love to see them do it.

A big part of it is last year nobody thought Florida State was any good when LSU lost to them so there was a big overreaction. This year the belief is that FSU is a title contender.

This makes a lot of sense. Way more unknowns last year on LSU.

Hopefully the unknown this year is that Arnett is a 17'n guru who's been hiding his genius for 3 kinda unimpressive wins thus far.

We were overall more talented than Arizona, but I think they had more future NFL players in their starting lineup.

I don't really understand this narrative. Arnett is a first year head coach but he's not a first year coach, and he has a veteran coaching staff. He's not the only one doing the coaching, either.

If we get out coached it's not because we have a first year head coach.

We may have some veteran position coaches, but we have a first time head coach, a first time defensive coordinator and an offensive coordinator in his first Power 5 job. Doesn’t exactly scream veteran coaching staff to me.

Your first time head coach and defensive coach has been in the program and coaching the same type of defense with most of the same players (with some pretty good success) for years. Your first time P5 OC is a long time OC who's had some success and some big wins, even against P5 schools. Almost all of your position coaches have been successful coaches in the past at some big time programs. Arnett's got a couple of former head coaches on the staff too.

The "first year head coach" thing is pretty overplayed in my opinion.

Maybe Vegas found out LSU will use the best player on the field and future top-five draft pick as he should be used on a football field. Thus, our tackles look like Jr. High players and Will getting dropped repeatedly.

And we all know how this movie plays out

State gets down early and looks frazzled, we fight our way back to make things interesting although never really putting the game in question, and we lose by 10-17 pts. Fast forward a week, the hogs give LSU all they can handle(possibly even winning), and we’re once again left wondering… why can we never figure this team out?

They beat us by 15 last year. Don’t see how it’s anything more than them giving us a few points for home field, but otherwise expecting the same result for two teams that are mostly the same as they were last year. No need to overthink it.

Personally, I’d be thrilled if it’s in the single digits or anywhere close to it. As a baseline, I’m mostly expecting to be doing yard work by the middle of the 2nd quarter, and I’m not going to be going after Arnett with a pitchfork or celebrating him if that’s the case. Better or worse than that, I’ll change my opinion accordingly.

Anything less than a win I will be disappointed. LSU wore out in the second half against FSU. Their secondary is suspect but their DL is very good. I think our defense will play well and I have hope that we will pass the ball quickly. We better be practicing the screen pass. Wright may play more in this game.

The reality of the last 10 LSU games.

3-7 record. Mostly dominated 4 times. Lost by 3 or less 3 times. All wins had us looking impressive early and two had us hanging on in the end.

Correction, they were uncompetitive and quit to what looks like a top 3 team. They also lost 4 games last year and played 3 really bad SEC teams really close. They are the most overhyped team in the conference outside of A&M.

Maybe so, but don't look at an NFL mock draft if you're under any illusion we are in the same talent galaxy.

I hope player experience counts a bunch and our coaching staff has talent in spades to offset experience.
