Sorry, but outside of the state of South Carolina pretty much anyone you ask will tell you that USC is in California.
Who cares? I'm a graduate of the University of South Carolina talking about football on a University of South Carolina message board. I have to imagine that anyone on this board who sees "USC" in a post is going to assume we're talking about the University of South Carolina, not the University of Southern California.

Back to the OP's question, another big key to the game will be the officiating. Will they consistently call holding when LSU's line holds Stewart? That was a big part of the game against UK when the refs through a couple different holding flags on UK's o-line. There were also quite a few no-calls when he was being mugged.

They won't call holding on every play. They could but they never do.

I know they won't on every play, and I wouldn't expect that. But will they call it more often than not, or will they just ignore it for the most part?

You are correct about the SEC but I would venture that very few people in the SEC outside of South Carolina fans refers to Carolina as "USC". They all refer to Carolina as "South Carolina". Heck, the vast majority of people think of UNC when they hear "Carolina".

As to OSU, I know Ohio State is very big on "The" as part of their name and they generally use tOSU as their acronym.
The Oregon State University.
The Oklahoma State University.

In Ohio State's case, I think it's more of a promotion to consider themselves the Buckeye State's flagship university.

I know they donā€™t want to trust Sellersā€™ arm yet, but they got to throw some on first down. We run for a yard or two, then end up with 3rd and 10 or 3rd and 8. This is not doing Sellers any favors. We would be better off throwing high probability passes on first down, rather than trying to run up the middle. This is not a good formula for an 18 year old kid.

"The moment is upon South Carolina. Just don't waste it" is an article on the pay site. Obviously, I don't know what's in that article. But, I think it may support what I, and others, have said. THIS game, unlike Kentucky, will show us what coaching chops Beamer has. LSU is more talented than us. But, most SEC teams will always be. I don't care who the coach is. That's not a knock on Beamer. I've posted many times why it's so difficult to recruit here. Our only chance for success is to have a coach who can "make filet mignon out of hamburger meat". The schedule this season gives Shane the chance to begin showing he has that coaching ability. Go Cocks.....Beat LSU!

It does. The UK game was nice, but let's be honest: UK probably isn't all that good. Our pass rush won us both of our first games. I know the common assumption is that LSU is overrated, and maybe they are...hard to say after 2 games...but they are still a very good team, better than (on paper, at least) and by far the best team we'll have faced this season). We will have to generate some offense to beat LSU. And they aren't going to absolutely self-destruct like UK did.

To your point, this is Shane's opportunity to show we can pick off some teams that are better than us. If we have any chance of ever punching our way up in the conference, you gotta win some of the games like this. We won't this game without great coaching.

No doubt, Saturday is a big day for Beamer and Gamecock football. Direction Day!!!
Win this game and a statement has been made. Lose this game and you're still 2-1, but an opportunity has been wasted.

This game would be a huge step forward if its a win.

But my expectations were to struggle to get toa bowl, and UK was pivotal for that. We still have A&M on the schedule, and we really need one win outside the patsies to get to a bowl.

I know that is a lower target than some, but i think its where we are.

UK was sort of the high point in the season last year. It may be (and it would be nice if this is true) that Carolina is a team that just has UK's number. Sports are full of matchups where one team seems to manage to beat another a lot even though the winning team is generally inferior on paper and in the opinion of everyone who looks at the matchup. It might be that it gets in one team's head that they can't beat another team and even when that team is really good, they tighten up and lose to the other team. UF had a 20 or so year run where they beat Georgia pretty much every year even when Georgia had a much more talented team. It was as if Georgia let UF get in their heads and couldn't win.

Let's hope UK isn't the big win this year.

I think in many of those years, Steve Spurrier was Florida's coach. We all know that Steve Spurrier was a helluva coach (IMHO, it's hard to believe we had a coach of Steve Spurrier's caliber here). Could Shane Beamer be that kind of coach? I don't know. But, I think we are going to find out this season. IF he is, it will be like having Spurrier here in the mid-1990s. We will find out, soon enough.

Controlling down and distance I think will be very important, as it is in every game. Our offense is not built to convert on 3rd and long. I agree with the rest you, roll Sellers out and try to establish the run. Need to make them cover sideline to sideline, stretch the field.

Supposedly, the OLine for LSU is top-notch; one of the tackles is considered a 1st round pick. We will see Saturday. Can LSU run the ball down our throats all day and dare us to stop it? Looking at the first two games, I would say no.

We are by default. You can't discuss college athletics without the AD being involved in some way.
We were talking about Southern Cal being more known as USC than us due to more success in football over the years. That's football fans perception in America. Do you think football fans in America can list the ADs that Southern Cal has had over the years? By default?

Beamer is no Spurrier.

Doubtful, but irrelevant. The ADs are responsible for all varsity sports at the school, not just the ones you and I favour.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about greater success in football for SouthernCal. I don't know any players that choose where to play based on the AD. My bad.

I agree with you. The best we can hope for is that he is a "Frank Beamer". Do you think there's any chance of that?
I doubt it but Frank wasn't really a great coach, he was good but not great. He was the beneficiary of being in the ACC and having a good team in a conference full of very mediocre football teams.

Pass on first or second down.
Roll out Sellers.
Try some wildcat (not Sellers).
Quick passes over the middle to tight ends and backs.
Delayed wheel routes after WR vacates the area.
Get under center on short yardage situations.
(I just don't understand starting five yards deep when you have a 240 lb QB and you only need a foot. I guess the traditional snap is a lost art.)
In game adjustments!!!
If it was only that easy šŸ¤£

THe most pertinent note is that USC opebed it's doors about 50 years before California even became a state. Has nothing to do with football or athletics in general.
